Job summary

Gulf Island in Houma, LA, seeks an experienced mechanic to repair and maintain engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulics, and electrical systems on a variety of yard equipment. You will work with hoisting equipment, lifts, forklifts, dozers, pipe mill gear, and shop tools, following manuals and safety rules.

The role requires climbing, reading schematics, and using power and hand tools, with a focus on safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in repair of yard equipment or similar machinery.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and accomplish work with minimal direction and supervision.
• Climb and work on and around equipment, using ladders, steps, etc.
• Read and understand service manuals, electric, hydraulic, and air piping schematics
• Operate mechanic hand, power, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical tools
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, electric, and pneumatic systems
• Use a burning torch and torque wrench
• Operate portable and shop blasting equipment
• Adhere to all company safety rules and regulations and be familiar with safety equipment
• Climb and work in high areas and confined spaces
• Keep work areas clean and in orderly condition
• Comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Description

Repair and maintenance engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulics, and electrical and pneumatic systems on a variety of yard equipment, including hoisting equipment, manlift/scissor lifts, forklift/loaders, dozer/side booms, pipe mill, fab shop equipment, burning equipment, painting and blasting equipment, compressors, winches, trucks, and other vehicles. The position requires the ability to perform a range of duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. The role involves working in various temperature conditions (hot, cold), humidity, wet and dry environments, dust, mud, and exposure to paint thinner and paint fumes.
