Job summary

Gulf Island is seeking a skilled mechanic to repair and maintain engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulics, and electrical and pneumatic systems on a range of yard equipment. The role requires reading service manuals, performing diagnostics, and using torque wrenches and burning torches as needed.

Outdoor work is common, with exposure to dust, paint fumes, and temperature changes. Candidates must pass pre-employment screening and background checks, and be able to work with limited

Qualifications

• Two years experience in mechanical repair or related field.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and accomplish work with minimal direction.

• Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.

Job description

Main Purpose

Repair and maintenance engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulics, and electrical and pneumatic systems on a variety of yard equipment (i.e., hoisting equipment, manlift /scissor lifts, forklift/loaders, dozer/side booms, pipe mill, and fab shop equipment, burning equipment, painting and blasting equipment, compressors, winches, trucks, and other vehicles). The person holding this position must be able to perform various duties.

Essential Functions

• Plan, organize, and accomplish work with minimal direction and supervision
• Climb and work on and around equipment, using ladders, steps, etc.
• Read and understand service manuals, electric, hydraulic, and air piping schematics, etc.
• Operate mechanic hand, power, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical tools
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, electric, and pneumatic systems
• Use a burning torch and torque wrench
• Operate portable and shop blasting equipment
• Adhere to all Company safety rules and regulations and be familiar with all safety equipment
• Climb and work in high areas and confined spaces
• Keep work areas clean and in orderly condition
• Comply with all OSHA Safety rules and regulations
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements

• Two years experience

Environmental Conditions

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet, and dry conditions, dust, mud, etc. They will also be exposed to paint thinner and paint fumes.
