Job summary

Ocean Coast Electric, a leading commercial electrical contractor in New Jersey, seeks an Equipment Manager to oversee vehicles, tools, and equipment, ensuring safe, reliable operation and availability for field crews.

You will coordinate preventive maintenance, track inventories, and work with mechanics, vendors, and project teams to minimize downtime and optimize costs in a fast-paced construction environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in heavy equipment or fleet operations.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment problems.
  • Experience managing vehicles, tools, machinery, or construction equipment.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • CDL Class A / DOT / IFTA / IRP paperwork and safety certifications

Responsibilities

  • Manage Ocean Coast Electric’s fleet of vehicles, trailers, and machinery, including but not limited to: Backhoe, Forklifts, Generators, Trailers, Boom Lifts, and more.
  • Maintain accurate records for all company equipment, including serial numbers, purchase dates, warranties, maintenance, repairs, and assigned users.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinate routine servicing, inspections, repairs, and emergency maintenance.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify safety concerns, damage, wear, or maintenance needs.
  • Track equipment assigned to employees, crews, jobsites, and company locations.
  • Establish procedures for checking equipment in and out.
  • Investigate lost, damaged, or improperly maintained equipment.
  • Work with Project Managers, Foremen, and field crews to ensure equipment needs are met.
  • Maintain logs for IFTA, IRP and DOT requirements.

Position Summary

We are seeking a responsible, organized, and hands‑on Equipment Manager to oversee the company’s vehicles, tools, machinery, and electrical equipment. This position is responsible for keeping equipment safe, reliable, properly maintained, and available for field crews when needed. The Equipment Technician will be responsible for moving equipment throughout the state as dispatched by the field led construction schedules. Must be comfortable loading, unloading, driving and towing various equipment.

The Equipment Manager will coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, equipment assignments, inventory, purchasing, and record keeping. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working with both field personnel and management.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay: $100,000 to $130,000 salaried, commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage Ocean Coast Electric’s fleet of vehicles, trailers, and machinery, including but not limited to:
    • Backhoe & Accessories, Dingo & accessories, Forklifts, Excavators – Small, medium & Large, Generators, Towable Light Towers, Trailers, Boom Lifts, Electric Scissor Lifts, Rough Terrain Lifts, Tampers & Trenchers, Bucket Trucks, Electric Carts, Kenworth NRC Roll Back, RTV, Transit Vans, Pickup & Rack Body, Lull & Accessories, Skids steer & Accessories.
  • Maintain accurate records for all company equipment, including serial numbers, purchase dates, warranties, maintenance, repairs, and assigned users.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinate routine servicing, inspections, repairs, and emergency maintenance.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify safety concerns, damage, wear, or maintenance needs.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are safe, operational, and compliant with applicable requirements.
  • Track equipment assigned to employees, crews, jobsites, and company locations.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of tools, materials, spare parts, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with mechanics, vendors, rental companies, and service providers as needed.
  • Obtain estimates and help evaluate repair-versus-replacement decisions.
  • Monitor fuel usage, mileage, service intervals, and operating costs where applicable.
  • Assist with purchasing new equipment, tools, vehicles, and replacement parts.
  • Establish procedures for checking equipment in and out.
  • Investigate lost, damaged, or improperly maintained company equipment.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Foremen, and field crews to ensure equipment needs are met.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe equipment storage area.
  • Help establish and enforce company policies regarding proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce equipment downtime and unnecessary operating costs.
  • Perform other duties related to fleet, equipment, and company operations as needed.
  • Maintain logs for IFTA, IRP and DOT State and Federal Requirements. CDL must be in good standing and maintained by Equipment Technician.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in heavy equipment, fleet, mobile services or related operations preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to identify common equipment problems.
  • Experience managing vehicles, tools, machinery, or construction equipment.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance and equipment needs.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain electronic records.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to work in a field/construction environment when required.
  • Must have CDL Class A certification / DOT Certification / IFTA / IRP Paperwork experience, OSHA Certification / Scissor lift certification / Forklift / Boom lift/ safety certification
