Job summary

Goodwin Recruiting is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance, repair, and reliability of heavy equipment and processing systems within an industrial scrap facility. You will lead and train a team of mechanics and technicians, ensure safety, and minimize downtime through preventive programs.

Responsibilities include supervising repairs on trucks and scrap equipment, coordinating with vendors, managing parts, and maintaining records in CMMS.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; degrees preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in truck and heavy equipment maintenance.
• Minimum 2 years of maintenance supervisory or leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, welding, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
• Experience with scrap-processing equipment such as balers, conveyors, and shears preferred.
• Familiarity with CMMS and equipment-tracking software.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and environmental compliance in industrial settings.
• Strong leadership, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Equipment Maintenance Manager

Position Overview

The Equipment Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliability of heavy equipment, vehicles, processing equipment, and facility infrastructure within a scrap metal recycling operation.

This position leads a team of mechanics and maintenance technicians and is responsible for ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. Equipment includes material handlers, excavators, loaders, trucks, balers, shears, conveyors, and other scrap-processing machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, trucks, material handlers, excavators, loaders, and scrap-processing equipment.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
• Lead, train, and manage mechanics, welders, and maintenance technicians.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and equipment-related issues.
• Coordinate emergency repairs and equipment breakdown response to minimize operational disruptions.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, environmental, and workplace safety requirements.
• Manage spare parts and maintenance inventory to ensure critical components are readily available.
• Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, equipment servicing, and replacement parts.
• Monitor maintenance expenses and identify opportunities to control costs without compromising safety or equipment reliability.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair histories, inspections, and equipment documentation.
• Utilize CMMS and equipment-tracking systems to manage work orders and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Complete purchase requests for maintenance-related equipment, parts, and supplies.
