Job summary

Coherent Corp. is seeking a qualified technician to maintain wafer processing tools in a fast-paced clean room environment in Sherman, TX. The role requires hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and collaboration with process and facilities teams.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of experience, electronics and mechanical expertise, and the ability to read schematics and blueprints. Some travel may be required for training and vendor visits.

Qualifications

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain various wafer processing tools as directed by management, equipment engineers, and/or senior technicians.
  • Run equipment to validate that corrective actions were successful.
  • Coordinate/perform both reactive maintenance and scheduled preventive maintenance on various wafer and assembly processing tools to maintain optimal uptime; this includes all support equipment such as pumps, power supplies, and gas cabinets.
  • Track, record, and communicate progress of maintenance work being performed on Fab, Back End, and Assembly equipment.
  • Train and mentor new team members.
  • Work independently and in a team environment when required.
  • Apply appropriate troubleshooting skills to correctly repair common failures.
  • Assist senior technicians and engineers in data collection to resolve reoccurring equipment issues.
  • Utilize available training materials, aids, and certification requirements to meet assigned personal improvement goals.
  • Participate in team meetings for continuous improvements; attend vendor off‑site training as required.
  • Be a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Facilities, Test Engineering, and other departments.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with the EES Manager and EES Engineers/Technicians.
  • Provide timely updates/communications on equipment status to management and the Camstar System.
  • Travel domestically and internationally when/if needed.
Education & Experience

Preferred Minimum Education

  • Military Electronics certification or an AS technical degree in electronics preferred.

Expected Minimum Years of Related Experience

  • 2+ years experience maintaining wafer processing equipment.

Preferred: maintenance knowledge of multiple of the following equipment:

  • Plasmatherm LAPECVD, Matrix Asher, Koyo vertical furnace, Lam rainbow, Oxford ICP, KLA/SPTS ICP, WET Etch Process, RENA Semi Auto Wet System, and MEI SRD, TEL Mark Vz, ACT 8, ASML 5500.
Skills
  • Practical knowledge and application of electronics, mechanics, vacuum theory, math, computers, and testing.
  • Basic computer skills and software programs (e.g., Microsoft products).
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and ability to learn operational concepts of systems and to perform diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques to solve complex operational and system problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, flow charts, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and interpret output of test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital volt‑ohm meters, current and voltage sources, and chart recorders.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to established company and departmental policies pertaining to day‑to‑day operations.
  • Must meet requirements for Emergency Response Team.
  • Problem solving: troubleshoot intermediate issues with little to no guidance.
  • Initial responder for unscheduled down tools.
  • Knowledge of how to read electronic schematics and mechanical blueprints.
  • Understand and follow written procedures and verbal instructions in the preventive maintenance of wafer fab equipment.
  • Self‑motivated and able to organize and manage daily work as directed by management, equipment engineers, and senior technicians.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Organization: balance planned and unplanned activities in a timely, professional manner.
  • Communicate progress and completion of tasks effectively.
Additional Skills
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical instructions.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries.
  • Understand and apply mathematical concepts such as exponents and logarithms for data analysis as required.
  • Problem solve, collect data, establish facts to draw valid solutions.
  • Interpret technical instructions both written and verbal.
  • Communicate verbally and written with internal customers.
  • Basic understanding of processes being run on tool sets to interface with process team.
  • Mentor junior team members.
Working Conditions
  • Work in a Class 100/1000 clean room.
  • Wear full clean room attire.
  • Work with and/or around chemicals such as acids and solids.
  • Work with and/or around gases, both hazardous and non‑hazardous.
  • Stand for up to 10 hours at a time.
  • Lift 50 pounds or push/pull up to 150 pounds.
  • Work a compressed shift (alternate between 3 and 4 consecutive 12‑hour shifts weekly) or Monday–Friday 9.5‑hour shifts as needed.
  • Pass and maintain an ERT clearance through periodic physicals.
Physical Requirements
  • Work in a Class 100/1000 clean room.
  • Wear full clean room attire.
  • Work with and/or around chemicals such as acids and solids.
  • Work with and/or around gases, both hazardous and non‑hazardous.
  • Stand for up to 10 hours at a time.
  • Lift 50 pounds or push/pull up to 150 pounds.
