Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Tolleson, AZ, seeks an Equipment Engineer II to sustain and improve manufacturing on the production floor. You will own diagnostics, corrective actions, and continuous improvement to boost quality and efficiency of solar module production.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical/Electrical/Automation engineering and 2+ years in equipment maintenance, with knowledge in design, circuitry, or controls and experience with problem-solving methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field.
  • 2+ years in equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge in mechanical design, circuit design, or programming/controls.
  • Familiar with 8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma, PDCA, 5Why, Ishikawa, FMEA.
  • Willing to work extended hours and wear PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for major downtime events and quality anomalies.
  • Drive equipment improvement projects from design through implementation.
  • Manage spare parts standards and analyze monthly consumption trends.
  • Maintain and update equipment operating specifications and technical documentation with cross-functional teams.
  • Deliver technical training sessions and produce engineering reports.
  • Collaborate with equipment manufacturers on performance issues and safety risk identification.

Role Purpose

Corning's solar module facility in Tolleson, AZ is seeking an Equipment Engineer II to sustain and improve manufacturing performance on the production floor. This role owns equipment diagnostics, corrective action implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives, playing a direct part in the quality and efficiency of solar module production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for major equipment downtime events and equipment-caused quality anomalies, ensuring preventive measures are implemented and sustained
  • Drive equipment improvement and innovation projects, from solution design through implementation and outcome documentation
  • Manage spare parts standards, analyze monthly consumption trends, and verify incoming parts to support uninterrupted operations
  • Maintain and update equipment operating specifications and technical documentation in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Deliver technical training sessions and produce engineering reports to build team capability and share best practices
  • Partner with equipment manufacturers on performance issues and improvement directions; support safety risk identification on the production floor
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in equipment maintenance
  • Proficiency in electrical or mechanical maintenance, with knowledge in one or more of the following: mechanical design, circuit design, or programming/controls
  • Familiarity with structured quality problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma, PDCA, 5Why, Ishikawa, FMEA)
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as operational needs require
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to extreme heat, cold, and noise; must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Physical ability to perform prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and climbing; ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and up to 20 lbs frequently
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in photovoltaic (PV) or semiconductor manufacturing
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement frameworks
  • Experience developing or delivering technical training content
  • Familiarity with spare parts management systems or inventory control processes

The range for this position is $81,104.00 - $111,518.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
