Summary

Under the direction of the Sr. Manager of Equipment Engineering, the Equipment Engineer is responsible for the evaluation, selection, order installation, modification, upgrade, and maintenance of tools in the vacuum area. The role uses AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software to draw diagrams or schematics, analyzes data, compiles reports, presents findings, and recommends corrective action if required. The engineer manages projects of various sizes, scopes, and budgets, consistently seeking opportunities to optimize tool performance, increase yield, and lower overall operational costs. This position is located in Milpitas, California.

Essential Functions
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend the selection of tools in the vacuum area to improve yield and lower operational costs.
  • Analyze tool data, compile reports, present findings, and recommend corrective action if required.
  • Manage projects of various scope, schedule, and budget to ensure established timelines are met.
  • Coordinate, track, and prioritize tool maintenance to ensure maximum tool up‑time; ensure all tools are maintained per schedule and within specification.
  • Use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software to draw diagrams or schematics.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding equipment or tool issues from other departments or groups.
  • Ensure all objectives in quality, productivity, yield, and cost are consistently attained.
  • Collaborate with engineering or other cross‑functional groups to resolve maintenance issues, improve equipment reliability, review procedures, and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Investigate and implement countermeasures to prevent repetitive breakdown of parts; maintain spare parts inventory at appropriate levels.
  • Research, develop, and implement an emergency tool recovery plan to keep tools functional during hard‑down situations.
  • Comply with all ISO 9001:2015 processes and procedures.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures as required.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Three years of experience working as an Equipment Engineer or Sr. Equipment Maintenance Technician in a high‑volume manufacturing environment within the semiconductor industry.
  • One year of hands‑on experience with thin‑film tools and equipment such as Canon Anelva, Veeco, and similar.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Research, evaluate, order, install, maintain, or upgrade various types of equipment, tools, or tool sets.
  • Understanding of semiconductor manufacturing principles, practices, and techniques related to equipment engineering and maintenance.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, Word documents, and presentations.
  • Create schematics or drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
  • Manage projects of various scope, schedule, and budget successfully.
  • Implement procedures and processes that increase reliability, improve yield, lower cost, and improve tool performance.
  • Analyze data, compile reports, and recommend corrective action.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of contractors, consultants, employees, and management.
  • Work productively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Repair and maintain various types of manufacturing tools and equipment.
  • Apply problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Show flexibility and ability to prioritize.
Compensation

The annual rate for this full‑time position is between $121,000.00 and $150,000.00, plus a bonus target and benefits. Pay may vary based on responsibilities, related knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. The range is subject to change and may be modified periodically.

Working Conditions

The Equipment Engineer works primarily in an indoor environment from Monday to Friday. The schedule may be altered from time to time to meet business or operational needs; travel between buildings may be required. The role is performed in a class 100 ESD‑sensitive wafer manufacturing facility. The engineer wears a cleanroom (bunny) suit, hood, gloves, safety glasses, booties, and mask. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, fumes, gases, loud noise, and potential claustrophobia may occur. Tasks include standing, walking, bending, twisting, crawling, fine grasping movements, operating a computer and keyboard, operating a telephone, and occasionally pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 30 pounds.
