Job summary

Tom Trese Networking LLC in the Binghamton, NY area seeks an Equipment Engineer to join a manufacturer focused on reliability and optimization of automated and legacy equipment. You will troubleshoot, commission, and optimize equipment uptime and ensure production performance.

You will work with PLC/HMI systems, machine vision, robotics, and sensors, lead automation projects, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with vendors and internal teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics preferred; AAS considered with strong automation experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on automation, equipment, or manufacturing engineering experience.
• Strong mechanical/electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills and working knowledge of PLC/HMI; advanced PLC programming not required.
• Experience with automated manufacturing equipment including machine vision, robotics, motion systems, pneumatics, sensors, tooling/fixtures, welding, fastening, or automated inspection.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, commission, and optimize new automated equipment and existing legacy machinery to maximize uptime.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, controls, and process-related issues involving PLC/HMI, machine vision, robotics, and sensors.
• Lead equipment and automation projects including vendor coordination, installation, validation, and production ramp-up.
• Mentor less-experienced engineers and technicians while collaborating with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and outside vendors.
• Coordinate with equipment suppliers for programming changes or technical support as needed.

Equipment Engineer (90-115K)

We have an excellent opportunity for an Equipment Engineer to join an established advanced components manufacturer in the Binghamton, NY area.

This is a hands-on equipment engineering role focused on equipment reliability, troubleshooting, process improvement, and optimization. You’ll work directly with a mix of automated and legacy manufacturing equipment to improve performance, reduce downtime, and maximize production uptime.

Job Duties

• Troubleshoot, commission, and optimize new automated equipment and existing legacy machinery to maximize equipment uptime and production performance.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, controls, and process-related issues involving PLC/HMI systems, machine vision, robotics, motion systems, pneumatics, welding, fastening, sensors, tooling, and fixtures.
• Use PLC/HMI systems primarily for equipment troubleshooting and problem localization, coordinating with equipment suppliers when programming changes or additional technical support are required.
• Lead equipment and automation projects including vendor coordination, installation, validation, production ramp-up, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, technicians, and outside vendors while providing technical guidance and mentoring to less-experienced engineers and technicians.

Education and Experience

• BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics Engineering or related discipline preferred; AAS with strong electro-mechanical/automation experience will also be considered.
• 3+ years of hands-on automation, equipment, or manufacturing engineering experience supporting production operations.
• Strong mechanical/electro‑mechanical troubleshooting skills and working knowledge of PLC/HMI and industrial controls; advanced PLC programming is not required.
• Experience with automated manufacturing equipment including machine vision, robotics, motion systems, pneumatics, sensors, tooling/fixtures, welding, fastening, or automated inspection.
• Strong shop‑floor manufacturing experience, project leadership, root-cause problem solving, and equipment/vendor coordination skills.
