Job summary

Bloom Energy is seeking an Equipment Controls Engineer to develop, program, commission, and optimize automated systems for new product development and high-volume ramp-up. This role bridges electrical, mechanical, and software engineering across in-house tools and external teams in Fremont, CA.

You will program PLCs, configure SCADA/MES/HMI interfaces, and troubleshoot control systems while supporting NPI and production ramp-up.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline.
• 0-2 years of experience in industrial automation and system integration.
• Experience with Allen Bradley PLC ladder logic programming.
• Strong interest in developing and commissioning control systems including SCADA, MES, PLCs, HMIs, motion controls, and vision systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams.
• Structured text programming experience (preferably Python, C, or C++).
• Good written and verbal communication; self-starter and able to work independently.

Job Overview

The NPI team is seeking an Equipment Controls Engineer to develop, program, commission, and optimize new R&D test fixtures and automated systems that support new product development and high-volume production ramp‑up. This cross‑disciplinary role bridges mechanical, electrical, and software engineering to deliver practical, reliable, and efficient systems that meet design intent and operational goals. It is a full‑time, on‑site position based in Fremont, CA, requiring presence in the office five days a week.

Key Responsibilities

• Setup, program, and test control systems to support process development and manufacturing processes.
• Utilize industrial communication protocols to enable reliable data exchange between systems.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and scalability.
• Lead and support commissioning activities with cross‑functional teams.
• Collaborate effectively with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams to define new requirements for new R&D equipment, tools, and test fixtures—primarily developed in‑house with occasional engagement with external design teams.
• Repurpose and upgrade existing equipment for feasibility and proof‑of‑concept efforts.
• Partner with Operations to support new product introduction (NPI) and high‑volume production ramp‑up.
• Document and transfer automation processes to Operations.
• Train team members during new equipment handoff and support release of the new equipment to ensure smooth transition from NPI to Operations.

Qualifications and Experiences

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 0‑2 years of experience in industrial automation and system integration.
• Experience with Allen Bradley PLC ladder logic programming and ability to pick up new programming languages as needed.
• Strong interest in developing, integrating, and commissioning control systems involving SCADA, MES, PLCs, HMIs, motion controls, vision, and vision‑guided robots.
• Good control, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root cause and implement permanent solutions.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams.
• Proficiency in structured text programming experience (preferably Python, C, or C++) is a plus.
• Good written and verbal communication.
• Highly motivated self‑starter, capable of organizing and working independently while managing tasks with minimal oversight.

Salary Range: $95,100.00 – $136,900.00
