Job summary

Silgan Closures in Waukegan, IL is seeking a Senior Equipment Assembler to join our team. You will assemble machine parts to close tolerance from blueprint instructions and verify parts against BOM.

You will work with engineering to confirm drawings, gather hardware, and perform drilling or sawing as needed. Strong mechanical experience and ability to read blueprints are required; English literacy and good communication are essential.

• Previous mechanical experience is required.
• Must read and write in English and communicate effectively.
• Relevant experience with blueprints and spec sheets is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble machine parts to close tolerance from blueprint instructions.
• Ensure parts are available for subassembly by checking against BOM.
• Work with engineering to verify blueprints or spec sheets.
• Gather hardware such as nuts, bolts and screws for assembly.
• Drill or saw parts as needed.
• Assist in moving machinery using lifting equipment.

What you'll do:

• Assembles machine parts at close tolerance form blueprint instructions.
• Ensures that all parts are available for subassembly by checking parts in boxes against bill of materials.
• Works with engineering department to determine that blueprints or spec sheets are correct.
• Gathers hardware including nuts, bolts and screws for assembly.
• Drills or saws parts when necessary.
• Assists in moving machinery using a chain hoist, electric lift truck or hand dolly truck.

What you'll need to have:

• Previous mechanical experience such as production mechanic, auto mechanic-, machine shop experience or hands-on machine shop classes.
• Must have ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometer, vernier, calipers, etc.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be able to read and write in English.
• Must have good communications skills.
• Must pass company administered mechanical test.
• Experience with all types of hand tools, drill press, lathe, mill, floor standing saw and powered lift truck.
• Ability to perform all types of welding: MIG, TIG, ARC, Spot, Braise; specializing in stainless steel.
