Job summary

Green Chimneys in New York is seeking an Equine Program Facilitator to implement educational, diversetheapeutic and recreational activities after school and on weekends. You will manage horses in a working barn, perform horse care, barn maintenance, and contribute to therapeutic farm programs for children.

Responsibilities include coordinating with the Equine Program Manager, assisting in all aspects of equine care, and supporting events and safety in a collaborative farm environment.

Qualifications

  • Collegedegree preferred; High School Diploma with significant experience working with horses required.
  • Experience working with special needs children in a residential treatment setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the direction of the equine program manager and farm leadership in implementing diverse equine activities.
  • Work closely with and take task direction from the Equine Program Manager.
  • Participate in all aspects of equine care including medical care, feeding, watering, and cleaning stalls, paddocks and pastures.
  • Assist the children in the equine program to create a safe and dynamic learning environment.
  • Mentor individual students in equine activities under GC staff supervision.
  • Communicate openly with staff about the program and children.
  • Support the farm and school during special events.

Job description

The EquineProgram Facilitator will implement the educational aspects of the multi-facetedequine program for children mostly after school and occasionally on weekends.Must be able to conduct a diversetherapeutic/educational/recreational program that combines equine care,groundwork, worked based learning activities in a relationship basedtherapeutic environment. Is responsible for managing horses in a working barnand performs horse care, barn maintenance, and pasture care. As a member of thefarm team, the facilitator will participate in agency and farm special events.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follow the direction of the equineprogram manager and farm leadership team in preparing and implementingdiverse equine activities, including but not necessarily limited togroundwork, games, therapy sessions, and public presentations
  • Work closely with and take taskdirection from the Equine Program Manager
  • Participate in all aspects of equinecare, including but not necessarily limited to medical care, feeding,watering, and cleaning stalls, paddocks and pastures.
  • Assist the children in the equineprogram in all ways necessary to create a safe and dynamic learningenvironment
  • Mentor individual students in equineactivities under the supervision of GC staff
  • Assist in maintaining the arenas,multipurpose room and barn facility
  • Communicate openly with the equinestaff, interns, Farm leadership and other staff members about the programand children
  • Support the farm and school duringspecial events
  • Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:

Collegedegree preferred; High School Diploma with significant experience working withhorses required

Experienceworking with special needs children in a residential treatment setting ispreferred

Licensure/Certification:

PATHCertification or equivalent; will consider candidates with applicableexperience and either certification in progress or the ability to obtaincertification

ValidNY State Driver’s License and clean driving record with the ability to pulllivestock trailer.May train to pulltrailer if candidate meets all other job required credentials.

CPRcertification or the ability to become certified

Physical/Mental Requirements (ADA Compliance):
  • Musthave the ability to work long hours, in a hectic environment, often underpressure.
  • Musthave the mobility to perform the essential duties of the position and work in afarm environment of varying terrain in all types of weather
  • Inorder to perform the essential duties of the job, the incumbent must be able tospeak, hear, see, type and perform a wide variety of physical tasks required towork with horses of varying size
  • Mustbe able to lift and carry fifty pounds routinely
  • Mustbe able to physically perform all duties related to equine care, including butnot limited to assisting children with horse care

Starting Salary: $17.00 per hour

This is a fulltime and benefit eligible role.
