Job summary

The Verland Foundation Inc. Sewickley, Pennsylvania is seeking an Equestrian Therapy Aide to assist in planning and conducting Equestrian Therapy activities such as equine awareness and therapeutic riding at the Main Campus in Sewickley, PA.

This is an hourly, non-exempt position with a first shift schedule. Responsibilities include supporting the Equestrian Therapy Supervisor, assisting with stable management, and coordinating therapy services with Occupational and Physical Therapy.

• Must have an understanding and knowledge of horses and stable management.
• Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting Equestrian Therapy activities.
• Lead or side-walker during mounted therapy sessions.
• Support coordination with Occupational and Physical Therapy services.
• Care for Horses and maintain stables (feeding, grooming, stalls).
• Assist with mealtimes and daily activities in the Adult Training Facility.

About this position

Description:

$19.86 / hour

Verland is now accepting applications for a Equestrian Therapy Aide to join the team at our Main Campus in Sewickley, PA.

Shift available:

1st shift: Monday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday and every other weekend

The Equestrian Therapy Aide will assist the Equestrian Therapy Supervisor in the planning, organizing, and conducting of Equestrian Therapy activities. These activities may include equine awareness, therapeutic riding, and coordination of therapy services with Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Contributions:

• Assists with therapy treatment for individuals receiving services.
• Assists in the selection of Equestrian Therapy activities and methods.
• Participates in the Interdisciplinary Team process, if necessary.
• Assists with maintaining the horses and upkeep of the stable, feeding and grooming the animals, cleaning stalls, etc.
• Serves as a leader or side walker during mounted therapy sessions.
• Works one-on-one with individuals during stable management activities.
• Assists with mealtimes in the Adult Training Facility (ATF), which includes feeding individuals.
• Assists/participates in the provision of direct support to the individuals receiving services at the ATF as assigned by the ATF Manager.
• Completes other duties as assigned by the supervisor or ATF Manager.
• In the event of staff shortages, may be required to complete DSP duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements:

• Must have an understanding and knowledge of horses, basic stable management, as well as an understanding of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• On-the-job training will be provided by the Equestrian Therapy Supervisor on equestrian treatment techniques, methods, and procedures.
• Must have all required clearances and a valid Driver's License.
• Must have a High School Diploma, a GED, or equivalent.2

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to frequently stoop, stand, sit, and walk long distances.
• Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull fifty (50) pounds independently.
• Lift/carry/push/pull up to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance, often.
• Ability to twist, see, hear, and speak.
