Job summary

Amentum seeks a driven Epidemiology Operations Senior Analyst to lead the DST's infectious-disease surveillance and epidemiology efforts on the PACOM Command Surgeon's team. You will oversee wastewater surveillance, integrate diverse data, and coordinate with civilian agencies, academia, and partners.

The role requires a Master of Public Health or related master’s degree, a Secret clearance, and 7+ years in epidemiology or public health surveillance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health science, or a closely related discipline
• Active Secret security clearance required (US Citizenship for clearance)
• 7+ years of experience in epidemiology, public health surveillance, disease monitoring, or related field
• Experience analyzing complex surveillance data and translating findings into actionable recommendations
• Knowledge of epidemiological design, surveillance methods, statistics, and data quality
• Familiarity with military planning and ability to work with military planners and decision-makers
• Strong writing, consultation, coordination, and senior-leader briefing skills
• Master's degree (MPH) and wastewater-based epidemiology experience
• DoW/Combatant Command/public-health or infectious-disease surveillance experience
• Knowledge of microbiology and emerging diseases
• Indo-Pacific experience and familiarity with AI-enabled tools or biosurveillance platforms

Job description

Amentum is seeking a driven and professional Epidemiology Operations Senior Analyst to work on the PACOM Command Surgeon's (J07) Decision Support Team (DST). This position serves as the DST's senior expert for infectious-disease surveillance, population-health trends, and epidemiological risk, acting as a primary liaison with civilian health agencies, academia, and foreign partners. The Analyst leads wastewater-based epidemiology and integrates public health, biosurveillance, wastewater, open-source, operational, and classified information to identify anomalies and assess force-health and mission effects. General public health experience without applied epidemiological or biosurveillance expertise is insufficient. Assigned to J85, the position directly supports J07, entails hybrid work from Camp Smith and other local locations, receives functional priorities from J07 through established contract channels, operates with project and technical oversight from J85, and reports administratively to the Amentum Project Lead.

Essential Responsibilities

• Analyze epidemiological, public-health, wastewater, biosurveillance, operational, open-source, and classified information to identify trends, anomalies, clusters, and emerging threats.
• Lead wastewater-surveillance baseline, indicator, trend, and anomaly-threshold development with laboratory, public-health, and CBRNE specialists.
• Assess the significance, reliability, limitations, uncertainty, and operational implications of epidemiological findings.
• Provide findings to the Operations Planner for integration with medical intelligence, CBRNE analysis, Force Health Protection, and operational plans.
• Monitor emerging infectious diseases and public-health threats across the US PACOM AOR using DoW, interagency, state, foreign-government, and partner data.
• Support epidemiological investigations and assessments in coordination with authorized DoW medical and public-health personnel.
• Coordinate with J07, subordinate commands, theater public-health organizations, overseas laboratories, intelligence analysts, military planners, and external partners.
• Test the Biosurveillance Information Platform and provide epidemiology-specific findings for Military Utility Assessments and recommendations.
• Translate surveillance needs into requirements for technical teams developing feeds, dashboards, alerts, and workflows; coding is not required.
• Develop surveillance protocols, data-quality standards, analytic methods, reports, white papers, and capability-improvement recommendations.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health science, or a closely related discipline.
• Must have an active Secret security clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in epidemiology, public health surveillance, disease monitoring, outbreak analysis, or a related field.
• Experience independently analyzing complex surveillance data and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
• Knowledge of epidemiological design, surveillance methods, statistical concepts, disease-activity measures, data quality, and uncertainty.
• Familiarity with military planning and ability to work with military planners, intelligence professionals, technical teams, and decision-makers.
• Strong writing, consultation, coordination, and senior-leader briefing skills.
• Active Top-Secret security clearance, with SCI eligibility later during employment.
• Master of Public Health or another relevant master's degree; wastewater-based epidemiology experience.
• DoW, Combatant Command, public-health agency, or infectious-disease surveillance experience.
• Knowledge of microbiology, pathophysiology, syndromic surveillance, and emerging diseases.
• Indo-Pacific experience and familiarity with AI-enabled tools, Maven Smart System, or biosurveillance platforms.

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $165K - $180K (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
