Job summary

Bestica is seeking an Epidemiologist to provide subject matter expertise within USAFSAM’s FESO branch at Joint Base San Antonio, TX. The role focuses on data analysis, data pipeline development, and health surveillance using SAS/EG and SQL, ensuring HIPAA compliance and security.

The successful candidate will support the Aero‑Medical Waiver Division’s data workflows, conduct investigations, and prepare documentation and presentations for stakeholders in the AFRS and Air Force environments.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in epidemiology with a minimum of two years’ experience in the field.
• Current HIPAA training, able to access and process identified medical data.
• Advanced analytical skills to include visual analytics in population health and health data surveillance.
• Ability to design, formulate, conduct, and lead data analysis of operational studies on health surveillance data/health records and risk reduction of negative health outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, retain and provide expertise in data processes to support interpretation and access to databases.
• Create, maintain, validate, operate and repair a data pipeline to a secure location.
• Assist in the development of investigation plans based on data quality and availability.
• Assist in interpreting data products and ensuring HIPAA compliance where feasible.
• Perform validation protocols and assist in model performance improvements.
• Draft written communication for internal and external purposes and contribute to interdisciplinary planning.
• Acquire data access permissions necessary to perform tasks.
• Use healthcare data systems and standards in performance of duties.
• Collect data from various databases pursuant to data-use agreements.
• Provide conference support and dissemination of study findings at meetings and forums.
