Job summary

University Health Partners of Hawai'i is seeking an experienced RN for the Early Phase Clinical Research Center. The role delivers direct patient care, administers medications, and coordinates care plans in collaboration with physicians and the care team.

The position requires Hawai‘i RN licensure, a Bachelor’s in Nursing, and CITI training within 3 months. BLS certification and oncology/clinical trials experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Hawai‘i RN license required.
  • CITI training within 3 months of hire; BLS CPR certification.
  • Two years RN experience in oncology or clinical trials preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, GCP and ICH in human subjects research.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Early Phase Clinical Research Center RN provides patient care, implements and evaluates patient care plans, administers medications and treatments, and monitors patient progress. This includes collaboration with other healthcare professionals, maintaining accurate documentation, and emergency response. Additionally, the RN provides training on protocol requirements, maintains patient confidentiality, and demonstrates flexibility to work variable shifts.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with nursing standards and hospital policies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Placement of IV access, monitoring venous access devices, oncology medication administration and monitoring, including oral therapies, injections, and infusions.
  • Monitor patient progress and document observations in medical records.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and ensure HIPAA compliance.
  • Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations using appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Follow infection control and safety procedures at all times.
  • Provides in-service training on protocol requirements to clinic staff by working closely with the PI and staff to ensure that clinical procedures are completed according to protocol.
  • Complies with all legal requirements and company policies.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must meet minimum shift or hour requirements per month (as defined by team needs).
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Training/Experience

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Nursing. (Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college in Nursing with at least two (2) years of professional experience in health sector may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.)
  • Must possess a State of Hawai‘i RN license
  • Must complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject training within three (3) months from date of hire.
  • Current BLS CPR Certification
  • Comfortable in IV access placement, venous access devices, oncology medication administration and monitoring including oral therapies, injections and infusions.
  • Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in a related clinical specialty (e.g., oncology) or clinical trials experience in oncology

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC), or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP).

Minimum:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in human subjects’ research and International Conference on Harmonization (ICH)
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Good Clinical Practices (GCP)
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.
  • Understanding of research study designs and ethics.
  • Knowledge of and experience with computers and software programs, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and database.
  • Specialized knowledge of clinical trial protocols grouped from a specific National Cancer Institute (NCI) research base, other source, or by disease site, etc.
  • Specialized knowledge of specific cancer care sites conducting clinical trials or of job areas, such as education/training, regulatory, investigational drug accountability/storage, specimen collection/processing, database maintenance/reporting, and auditing.
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of the University of Hawai‘i and UHCC policies and procedures.
