Job summary

Arzeda seeks a detail-oriented Scientist to join the Protein Testing team in Seattle. You will design, mature, and optimize enzymatic assays from concept to high-throughput workflows that inform program decisions.

This role is roughly 75% lab work and 25% data analysis, reporting, and collaboration, reporting to the team lead. You will work onsite Monday–Friday with some weekend work, collaborating with Protein Design, Strain Design, Genetic Design-Build, and analytical specialists to generate

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field with ~1 year of industry experience, or Master’s/Bachelor’s with ~6 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated ability to build enzymatic assays from scratch or meaningfully redesign them.
• Breadth across protein testing and characterization: plate-reader assays (absorbance/fluorescence), SDS-PAGE, LabChip, protein quantification.
• Comfort working with HPLC / mass spec handoffs and collaborating with specialists.
• Experience evaluating data sets, building reports, and presenting findings.
• Ability to work onsite, Monday – Friday with some occasional weekend work.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and mature enzymatic assays end to end.
• Improve assay sensitivity, specificity, and throughput.
• Run plate-reader assays and related characterization methods.
• Generate proof-of-concept data and present trade-offs to the team.
• Support testing workflows with protein expression and purification as needed.
• Collaborate with upstream teams and analytical specialists for data exchange.
• Communicate progress with project managers and help refine SOPs.
