Job summary
Travis County Natural Resources is seeking an innovative Visitor Center Operations Manager to open and operate the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve Visitor Center, slated to open in 2028. The role leads long‑term planning, facilities, exhibits, reservations, gift shop, and event spaces while aligning with habitat management and educational goals.
The position is hybrid with some nights/weekends, overseeing staff, contracts, budgets, and environmental compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in natural resources or a related field and four years of experience in natural resources, environmental analysis and grant management.
- Equivalent education and experience as required to perform duties.
Responsibilities
- Operate a Visitor Center of comparable scale.
- Develop SOPs and policies for the Visitor Center.
- Contract scoping and management for site operations.
- Supervise staff and coordinate schedules and assignments.
- Provide environmental expertise for design, construction, and maintenance.
- Coordinate with county/city divisions and external partners.
- Prepare grant applications and contract documents; oversee grant compliance.
- Oversee annual reports and environmental compliance training.
