  • Three years of related experience required for Tech II.
  • DNR Wastewater Operator in Training (OIT) certification required within 24 months (Tech I) or possessed (Tech II).
  • Other combinations of training/experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

Job description

The City of Beloit has an exciting employment opportunity available in the Water Resources Division of the Department of Public Works. Beloit seeks an Environmental Technician I or II which is responsible for identifying, evaluating, preventing, and controlling discharges that can contaminate the natural water resources, as well as the infrastructure to collect, distribute, and treat drinking water, storm water and waste water.

This position will serve as the point of contact between the City and commercial users and a secondary contact for significant industrial users for pretreatment concerns. The individual hired may be hired as a Environmental Technician I or Environmental Technician II depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position typically works Monday through Thursday from 6:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. Schedule is subject to change based on business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Environmental Technician I
  1. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  2. Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, environmental science, biological science, civil engineering, industrial processes, public administration or a closely related field.
  3. One to two years of related environmental technician or water resources experience is preferred.
  4. Must obtain Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wastewater Operator in Training (DNR OIT) Certification within 24 months of hire.
  5. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
Environmental Technician II
  1. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  2. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, environmental science, biological science, civil engineering, industrial processes, public administration or a closely related field.
  3. Three years of environmental technician, water resources, or related experience is required.
  4. Experience in a laboratory environment is preferred.
  5. Must possess a valid Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wastewater Operator in Training (DNR OIT) Certification.
  6. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
