Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, seeks a dedicated Environmental Services team member. Under supervision, you will clean, maintain, and service assigned areas to support a safe patient environment, adhering to Rush policies and procedures.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to operate cleaning equipment and follow safety guidelines; prior cleaning experience is preferred but not required. Full-time, day shift with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate, after training, skill and controlling of cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge of proper use of chemicals and equipment in cleaning, to achieve desired results.
  • Must be able to 10 Step Clean and isolation clean a patient room, cycle clean OR and L&D suites, and terminal clean areas as needed.

Responsibilities

  • 10-Step Cleaning
  • Vacuum carpeted areas
  • Dry and wet mop hard floors
  • Clean and polish metal surfaces
  • Perform 'Discharge Cleaning' as assigned./Utilize Bed Tracking System
  • Spot clean windows
  • Clean water fountains
  • Clean public telephones
  • Clean all restrooms
  • Empty waste receptacles and remove waste
  • Maintain all supplies in assigned storage area and keep neat, clean, and organized
  • Clean all upholstered furniture
  • Clean emergency spills and floods
  • Maintain and operate floor burnishers
  • Wash walls and ceilings as assigned
  • Perform special projects such as hanging drapes and cubicle curtains
  • Clean and maintain equipment and request repairs as needed
  • Report any deficiencies observed in equipment, furniture or fixtures
  • Sign in and out pagers, keys and equipment
  • Clean rolling stock, hospital equipment and related items
  • Accountable for cleanliness and neat appearance of assigned area
  • Return all soiled dry/wet mops to designated areas
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Pay Range: $19.60 per hour

Summary

Under general supervision of an Environmental Services supervisor, cleans, maintains, and services assigned areas throughout RPSLMC. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Must demonstrate, after training, skill and controlling of cleaning equipment.

  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a neat personal appearance.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • High school graduate or G.E.D., ability to understand written English and oral instructions.
  • Prior cleaning experience helpful, but not essential.
Physical Demands
  • Stand, walk, and stoop often while performing duties.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and control cleaning equipment and materials up to 150 pounds in weight and move large trash objects and containers.

  • Accountable for cleanliness and neat appearance of assigned area, and that the schedule is complete and all instructions are followed so that the area will pass inspection of supervisors, managers, and administrative personnel.
  • Return all soiled dry/wet mops to designated areas.
