Job summary

Sargento Foods is offering an Environmental & Sustainability Engineering Internship in Wisconsin. You will learn how environmental regulations are applied in manufacturing and how sustainability initiatives are planned, implemented, and measured in an operational setting.

You will work with the corporate environmental engineer and cross-functional teams to identify improvements. As an intern, you will develop communication, analytical, and project skills while engaging in energy and water

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in energy, environmental or earth science, physics, chemistry, engineering, or related field.
  • Strong time management and independent work capability.
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle; no mass transit to housing.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritize continuous improvement opportunities to reduce water and energy use while delivering cost savings.
  • Validate waste stream management and support diversion projects.
  • Investigate grant funding opportunities and assist with applications.
  • Research environmental regulations and document recommended steps.
  • Present findings to leaders to support project implementation.
  • Create SOPs and visual indicators for initiative deployment.
  • Assist tracking wastewater treatment costs and metrics.
  • Perform environmental audits alongside the corporate environmental engineer.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support sustainability data requests.
  • Support evaluation of sustainability practices across the supply chain.
  • Other duties as assigned; maintain confidentiality.

What You Do.
  • Identify and prioritize continuous improvement opportunities that reduce water and energy use while delivering cost savings at manufacturing and corporate facilities.
  • Validate effectiveness of waste stream management channels. Perform waste stream audits, assist in diversion projects, and measure impact.
  • Investigate opportunities for grant funding, quantify applicable project benefits, and support the preparation and submission of grant applications.
  • Research new and emerging environmental and sustainability regulations documenting proposed next steps.
  • Present findings and recommendations to organizational leaders supporting the implementation of approved projects.
  • Create standard operating procedures and visual indicators to ensure successful initiative implementation.
  • Assist with tracking wastewater treatment costs and metrics at each production facility.
  • Perform hazardous waste, stormwater inspections, air emission, chemical and / or other environmental audits alongside the corporate environmental engineer.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and business units to collect, analyze, and support sustainability data requests.
  • Support the evaluation, analysis and quantification of sustainability practices and performance across our supply chain.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to Sargento’s proprietary information.
Your Education And Qualifications.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in energy, environmental or earth science, physics, chemistry relevant engineering, technical based studies program, or a relevant life sciences area, having completed sophomore year prior to the start of internship.
  • An ability to work independently with effective time management, resourcefulness, originality, and initiative.
  • Self-leadership, motivation, and ownership for work / projects
  • An ability to follow health and safety practices in all work environments including but not limited to issues related to mechanical, electrical, fire, chemical and other hazards.
  • A basic understanding of functional and design criteria of utility systems (electricity, natural gas, water, wastewater, etc.)
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and vehicle required. There is no mass/public transit system to/from corporate housing location to company locations.
