Job summary

Lhoist North America is seeking an Environmental Programs Manager to oversee regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship at our sites in the United States. You will manage environmental control systems, collect data, and lead root-cause analyses of incidents to prevent recurring issues.

You will work with regulators, lead training programs, and coordinate inspections while guiding reclamation, recordkeeping, and product registrations across states.

Qualifications

  • BS engineering degree in Environmental, Chemistry, Natural Science, or other related technical degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years professional management or supervisor experience in industrial environmental.
  • Three (3) years in lime, cement, mining or other related industry preferred.

  • Maintain knowledge of applicable LNA, Local, State and Federal environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Coordinate, accompany, communicate and follow-up with Local, State and Federal inspectors and officials.
  • Coordinate and lead all activities related to reclamation.
  • Oversee product registration efforts in applicable states in the US.

Responsibilities & Expectations

ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS


  • Coordinate maintenance of environmental control systems and CEMS as required to ensure continual compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations, Title V permits and with LNA policies and procedures.

  • Develop and implement programs, including training, as necessary to ensure compliance with LNA, Local, State, and Federal environmental requirements

  • Coordinate, accompany, communicate and follow-up with Local, State and Federal inspectors and officials.

  • Coordinate and lead all activities related to reclamation.

Recordkeeping, Reporting, Compliance


  • Coordinate recordkeeping and reporting as required to ensure continual compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations and with LNA policies and procedures.

  • Develop a strong working relationship with local, state and federal safety agencies and environmental agencies.

  • Coordinate, accompany, communicate and follow-up with Local, State and Federal inspectors and officials.

  • Maintain all SEQ & BLM related files and records.


Safe Quality Food (SQF)


  • Ensure a SQF workplace and follow regulatory compliance with Federal FDA – Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 507).

  • Support Environmental Health and Safety, as well as SQF initiatives and awareness programs.

  • Be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture.

  • Following completion of SQF training, demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance and Food Safety Culture.

  • Complete periodic SQF training(s).

  • Each site location will ensure training is conducted for new employees and continued for existing employees.

  • Employees will actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site.


Attributes


  • Knowledgeable of state and federal laws, regulations, and agencies, the regulatory process, the permit application process, and the procedures for obtaining information.

  • Proven track record in the following environmental areas: emission testing, emission inventory calculations, NPDES and Title V management, Tier II & III reporting, EPCRA, groundwater monitoring, solid waste, and hazardous waste programs.

  • Ability to influence change with key personnel at the site level of the organization.

  • Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing procedures and equipment.

  • Ability to work with regulators, inspectors and other government agents from MSHA, ATF, EPA, BLM, NDEP, etc.

  • Skilled with Root-Cause-Failure Analysis methods.

  • Above average computer skills in MS Office required.

  • Experience with SAP QM, CRM and DMS module preferred.

  • Basic understanding of computer software applications for equipment control, data collection, quality control and analysis in an industrial operation.


Physical Demands Include, But Are Not Limited To


  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.

  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

  • Will be working at times in covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment.

  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Lime/Mineral Particles.

  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.


Required Education


  • BS engineering degree in Environmental, Chemistry, Natural Science, or other related technical degree and/or equivalent experience.


Required Experience


  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years professional management or supervisor experience in industrial environmental.


Preferred Experience


  • Three (3) years in lime, cement, mining or other related industry preferred.

  • Experience with EPA, Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP), Clark County Nevada Environmental Department preferred.
