Position

The Environmental Studies Graduate Program at CSUF seeks part‑time faculty to teach courses in environmental science, planning, and regulation. The program enrolls 60–100 graduate students and offers interdisciplinary coursework across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

Teaching Responsibilities

Possible assignments include:

  • Air Quality Management
  • Environmental Impact Assessment

Appointments are temporary and may begin shortly before the start of an academic term. Applicants must be available on short notice.

Required Qualifications
  • PhD, or Master’s degree with substantial professional experience, in a discipline related to the course content.
  • Teaching or professional experience addressing environmental challenges in Southern California.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body, including first‑generation college students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Relevant professional experience and professional capabilities in the environmental field.

Academic Calendar

Part‑time faculty are most needed in Fall and Spring semesters. Fall: late August to mid‑December; Spring: mid‑January to end of May. Rarely needed during summer sessions.

Performance Evaluation

Evaluations are conducted by the department in accordance with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. Outcomes influence future assignments.

Appointment and Salary

Appointments are made as Lecturers under the CSU/California Faculty Association agreement. Initial term is one semester.

Classification range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month. Salary is prorated to units worked and paid in six monthly payments per semester.

For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.
