Job summary

The City of Philadelphia’s Parks & Recreation department is seeking an Environmental Stewardship Specialist to support citywide environmental programs, engage volunteers, and lead weekly service events focused on Cobbs Creek Park and Pennypack Park. The role involves data collection, community outreach, and collaboration with city partners.

You will help sustain natural areas, recruit and train volunteers, and coordinate with multiple departments to advance stewardship goals while working

Qualifications

• Completion of a degree program at an accredited college or university.
• 1-2 years of experience or training in ecology preferred.
• 1–2 years of experience in customer service or community organizing preferred.
• Experience working with volunteers (in a professional capacity preferred).

Responsibilities

• Support sustaining, restoring, and enhancing natural areas within the park system.
• Assist capacity building for environmental stewardship groups.
• Collaborate with city departments, nonprofit partners, and communities.
• Serve as liaison to community/volunteer groups in Cobbs Creek Park and Pennypack Park.
• Plan and prepare sites for weekly service projects and obtain materials.
• Lead volunteer park projects in coordination with cross-departmental divisions.
• Support Philadelphia Water Department initiatives in target parks.
• Support volunteer service days with large groups (corporations, schools, nonprofits).
• Maintain volunteer database and track service day metrics for reporting.
