As an Environmental Specialist II on the Permitting & Environmentals team, you will support the environmental permitting and compliance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, Environmental Science, Natural Sciences or related sciences; or 30 credit hours in Biology combined with relevant field experience.
  • 5 to 10 years demonstrated environmental agency permitting experience.
  • Working knowledge of NHPA and Section 106 compliance.
  • Experience with federal, state, and/or local agencies on environmental permitting or cultural resource matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including agency correspondence and reports.
  • Proficiency with Google Earth, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Research environmental components to determine concerns and steps to address them.
  • Work with federal and state agencies to obtain environmental permitting clearance.
  • Support state/local land use and environmental permitting efforts, including special use permits and certificates.
  • Assist with project compliance, fieldwork support, budgets, milestones, and proposals.
  • Coordinate survey efforts between third party consultants and federal agencies.

  • Working with various federal and state agencies to obtain environmental permitting clearance for construction.

  • Work may include project compliance or fieldwork support, budget and milestone coordination, and proposal or scope-of-work development support.

Position Overview

As an Environmental Specialist II on the Permitting & Environmentals team, you will support the environmental permitting and compliance review process for broadband and telecommunications construction projects. You will play a key role in supporting activities regulated by NEPA and Section 7, including researching, preparing, and submitting environmental reports and documentation to federal, state, and local agencies for JSI’s clients in Alaska, California, and Oregon.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, Environmental Science, Natural Sciences or related sciences; or 30 credit hours in Biology combined with relevant field experience required.
  • 5 to 10 years demonstrated environmental agency permitting experience
  • Working knowledge of federal grant-related environmental requirements, including the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Section 106 compliance.
  • Experience working with federal, state, and/or local agencies on environmental permitting or cultural resource matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare agency correspondence, environmental and cultural resource reports, and project documentation.
  • Proficiency with Google Earth, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Excel, and Word, with the ability to manage multiple projects and changing requirements effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with federal agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).
  • Experience supporting telecommunications, fiber optic, or other linear infrastructure projects.
  • Experience coordinating with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs), state archaeological agencies, municipalities, and other permitting authorities.
