Salary Range

New Higher Salary: $45,926 – $80,369

The Challenge

We are looking for an entry level Environmental Specialist to join our Environmental Analysis team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections, schedule staff meetings, and coordinate/oversee private consulting firms.
• Review staff recommendations affecting critical highway project expenditures.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of techniques and methods used in ecological field inventories, stream and wetland delineations, and protected species surveys.
• Strong problem solving, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills related to complex environmental issues.
• Strong communication skills.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), familiarity with ArcGIS, MicroStation, and handheld GPS data loggers.
• Knowledge of natural resource conservation principles and environmental regulations, including NC Environmental Policy Act, NEPA, and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
• Ability to review technical projects, prepare permit applications, and environmental documentation in compliance with laws.
• Experience with natural resource field evaluations and species surveys.
• Ability to evaluate and manage environmental compliance on construction projects.
• Experience liaising with external organizations and agencies.
• Ability to operate a State vehicle safely.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
