Job summary

Haydon is seeking an Environmental Specialist to ensure construction projects comply with environmental regulations and best practices in Phoenix, AZ. The role emphasizes collaboration with project teams to drive sustainable practices and implement environmental management systems across the project lifecycle.

You will identify and mitigate environmental impacts, coordinate with the EHS team, and oversee permits, documentation, and reporting to support safe, compliant project execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, biology, water resources, hydrology, or related subjects.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to present to large audiences.
• Ability to work in a team based collaborative environment.
• Ability to understand and apply environmental rules and statutes; to follow guidance documents, standard operating procedures, and other technical instructions in performance of tasks; to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports; and to summarize completed tasks and/or monitoring data orally and in written communication.
• The ability to read and interpret SWPP plans, plan details, specifications and other contract documents as it relates to project specific environmental requirements.
• The ability to obtain environmental and sustainability certifications, including but not limited to Erosion Control Coordinator, Rule 310 Comprehensive Certification, OSHA 30, etc.
• Proficient in all Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of environmental processes at the project level and address any concerns that may be outside of compliance.
• Assist supervisors in obtaining and maintaining environmental permits.
• Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks to the company.
• Prepare and maintain environmental documentation, including reports, compliance records, and project plans.
• Perform and oversee field inspections and monitoring (water quality, air, noise, etc.)
• Identify sensitive environmental areas for protection and fencing in advance of construction activities.
• Conduct environmental protection and awareness training for staff.
• Function as an advisor and coordinator for environmental issues.
• Attend field visits with Client and regulatory agencies.
• Ensure critical permitting, certifications, and licensing requirements are met.
• Promote and implement sustainability initiatives and best practices within the project framework.
• Perform other duties or special projects assigned.
