  • Experience with permitting, inspections, recordkeeping, and regulatory submissions.
  • Ability to train, educate, and influence employees on environmental requirements.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate environmental permitting, monitoring, testing, and reporting for air, water, and waste programs.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of environmental compliance programs.
  • Maintain SPCC, SWPPP, TRI, GHG, Tier II, and CEMS programs and records.
  • Assist with obtaining and renewing environmental permits.
  • Coordinate hazardous and universal waste management activities.
  • Support EMS maintenance and audits; contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Provide environmental training for employees and contractors.

Grain Processing Corporation (“GPC”), a member of the KENT WORLDWIDE™ family of companies, is looking for an Environmental Specialist to manage and support critical environmental programs at our Washington facility. You will work with teams across the organization on compliance, permitting, training, environmental management systems, and the monitoring and reporting of air, water, and waste activities.   • This position is designed and intended to be performed in Washington, Indiana.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate environmental permitting, monitoring, testing, and reporting activities for air emissions, water discharges, and waste management programs.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental compliance programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain and update key environmental programs, including Spill Prevention and Countermeasure (SPCC), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Toxic
  • Release Inventory (TRI), Greenhouse Gas (GHG), Tier II, and Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEMS) programs.
  • Partner with operations and department leaders to promote environmental compliance and serve as a resource for regulatory and program requirements.
  • Assist with obtaining, renewing, and modifying environmental permits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate hazardous and universal waste management activities, including inspections, recordkeeping, and disposal processes.
  • Support environmental training and awareness programs for employees and contractors while helping foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
  • Assist with the operation of the facility's wastewater treatment processes and maintain required environmental certifications and compliance records.
  • Maintain the site's Environmental Management System (EMS) and participate in audits, continuous improvement efforts, and departmental on-call responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Sustainability, or a related science-based field.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, sustainability, environmental management, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting environmental programs in a manufacturing, industrial, agricultural processing, or similar operational environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations related to air emissions, water discharges, stormwater management, and waste handling.
  • Understanding of environmental reporting and compliance programs, including permitting, inspections, recordkeeping, and regulatory submissions.
  • Ability to train, educate, and influence employees on environmental requirements, compliance expectations, and best practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Limited travel required, primarily for training, certification, and professional development opportunities.
