Capital is seeking an Environmental Specialist that will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and company policies at in, Missouri. This includes overseeing hazardous material handling, spill response, stormwater management, air quality monitoring, waste management, and the implementation of environmental programs to support safe and sustainable operations. The ideal candidate would be someone with a blend of environmental regulatory knowledge, field experience, and an understanding of industrial or rail operations.
JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, DOT, FRA).
- Maintain and update environmental permits (e.g., NPDES, SWPPP, SPCC, air permits).
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of the facility to identify and correct potential environmental risks.
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental programs and procedures related to operations.
- Coordinate with contractors and operations staff to ensure environmental policies are understood and followed.
- Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies as required (e.g., Tier II, TRI, emissions reporting).
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, waste manifests, spill reports, and compliance audits.
- Deliver environmental training to staff (e.g., spill response, hazardous waste handling).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental issues at the terminal.
- Lead and coordinate response to environmental incidents, including spills and releases.
- Investigate environmental incidents and develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Support sustainability initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement to minimize environmental impacts.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in an environmental compliance role.
- Familiarity with rail operations, terminal/transloading activities, or HMA is a plus.
- Experience developing and managing environmental management systems (EMS).
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- HAZWOPER certification and experience with spill response is a plus
