The Role:Environmental Specialist
As an Environmental Specialist at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what�s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet. In this role your primary responsibilities will be to ensure proper environmental permitting support during the design and construction phase of all new Switch facilities and the expansion of existing facilities across our domestic footprint.
You will be accountable for cross-functional coordination with design and construction teams and 3rd parties to drive permitting and environmental regulatory compliance. In addition, in this role you will be responsible for collaboration with internal and external subject matter experts to understand potential environmental impacts of future designs. As the Environmental Specialist you will directly engage with the operations teams to ensure all permit requirements are understood and complied with appropriately. In this role you will work with consultants, generator suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and related third parties to meet Switch�s business goals while obtaining permits to meet EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, and state regulatory agency requirements.
In this role you will be responsible for the supervision of Switch�s environmental permitting needs for all current and future Switch locations inclusive of air quality, water, and wetlands with a specific focus on air quality.
What You�ll Do
- Oversee all regulatory permits and environmental requirements related to air emissions, water, and wetlands requirements at the direction of the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs & Campus Development.
- Oversee the submittal of all environmental applications to obtain all applicable permits.
- Project manage all new permit applications, amendments, renewals, and planning forecasts relating to the same.
- Support executives responsible for the Switch Environmental Program.
- Interact with project managers, operations teams, and legal department to ensure awareness of all permit requirements.
- Act as the single point of contact for regulatory agencies for complaints or violations.
- Work with consultants and other third parties to ensure that Switch�s strategies meet EPA and state agency compliance requirements.
- Research and understand new local and federal environmental regulations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with environmental agencies and conduct regular meetings.
- Engage with campus development, construction, and operations teams on environmental requirements and strategic initiatives.
- Coordinate with external consultants and other third parties on permits for new designs, construction builds and initiatives.
- Work with consultants and internal teams to transition a working permit to operations for adherence to requirements.
- Drive next-level innovation in Campus Development to support our mission-critical infrastructure.

What You'll Bring
- Bachelor�s degree in Environmental or a related discipline, with some background in business development.
- Minimum 5 year�s experience in the initiation, amendment, and renewals of permits for air quality and wetlands with a focus on generator air permits.
- In-depth knowledge of EPA air permitting statutes, regulations, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of state agency air permitting regulations in Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and/or Texas preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to analyze and make suggestions for problem resolution.
- Solve problems with good initiative and sound judgment.
- Capable of making independent decisions with minimal supervision.
- Handle a wide range of administrative and executive support related tasks.
- Able to collaborate effectively with vendors, contractors, and consultants.
