Job summary

Shriners Children’s in Honolulu is seeking a diligent environmental services teammate to perform custodial and housekeeping tasks throughout the hospital, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in patient and public areas for patients, families, and staff.

The role emphasizes safe chemical handling, proper use of cleaning tools, teamwork, and adherence to rotating schedules, with competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year health-care environmental services experience.
  • Some experience in all phases of Environmental Services is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Perform custodial and housekeeping duties across hospital areas and departments.
  • Lead cleaning activities in assigned areas and maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Operate cleaning equipment, understand chemical usage and storage, and follow safety procedures.
  • Determine repairs or maintenance needs during tasks and submit requests.
  • Communicate inventory levels for department supplies and materials.
  • Use computers to relay information and coordinate tasks as needed.
  • Handle, transport and dispose of waste including medical and hazardous waste per procedures.
  • Maintain PPE usage and SDS awareness to prevent injuries.
  • Perform floor care (stripping, mopping, buffing) and clean patient and public rest rooms.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down meetings or events as required.
  • Move/transport items safely without damage to items or surroundings.
  • Maintain physical stamina to stand, walk, lift and perform daily tasks.
  • Participate in staff development and team coverage and rotating schedules.
  • Respond respectfully to customers, staff, patients, families and visitors.

Job Description
  • Performs a variety of custodial and housekeeping duties, maintains desired standards of cleanliness, sanitation and appearance throughout the entire hospital in all patient zone areas, Dining areas, administration buildings, internal and external environments.
  • Leads cleaning activities in assigned areas.
  • Includes being able to use and maintain cleaning tools, equipment, understand chemical usage and storage.
  • Be able to determine defects and repairs needed during routine tasks and submits timely maintenance requests.
  • Be able to communicate inventory levels for all department supplies and materials.
  • Use of computers to relay this information is highly desirable.
  • Understands the importance of handling, transporting and disposal of trash, regulating medical waste, hazardous waste and soiled linens.
  • Using signs and other safety precautions including PPE, understanding SDS, utilizing proper lifting, pushing and pulling to avoid injury to self or others at all times.
  • Performs a variety of hard and carpet floor care to include stripping, mopping and buffing floors on a routine basis.
  • Cleans patient rooms including discharges according to departmental procedures.
  • Cleans patient and public rest rooms according to departmental procedures.
  • Participate in Setting up and Breaking down for meetings and events throughout the hospital according to facilities protocol.
  • Moving/transporting items as requested without damage to the items or surroundings.
  • Physically able to stand, walk, lift, carry, grasp, push, pull, bend, kneel, crawl and/or climb to successfully perform daily essential tasks.
  • Participates in staff development and training within the department.
  • Teamwork and team coverage is key to scheduling needs and rotational assignments.
  • Respond to Customers, Staff, Patients, families and Visitors with respect, courtesy and in a helpful manner at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested willingly and promptly, and with a positive attitude.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year health-care environmental services experience.
  • Some experience in all phases of Environmental Services is helpful.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma/ GED preferred.
Salary

The pay range for this position is $16.19 - $24.29/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
