Job summary

Mercyhealth in Illinois is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to perform thorough cleaning of patient rooms, bathrooms, and related areas in a hospital setting. You will support infection prevention standards, manage EVS equipment, and ensure safe chemical handling and waste disposal according to department policies.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous hospital cleaning experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Thorough cleaning of assigned areas including rooms, furniture and fixtures.
• Perform dusting, mopping, carpet care, and restroom sanitation.
• Adhere to isolation procedures and infection prevention standards.
• Maintain EVS closet and equipment in orderly condition.
• Mix and store chemicals safely and follow proper dilution ratios.
• Use Xenex UV Light robot for applicable rooms.
• Move furniture and supplies following safety lifting procedures.
• Respond to supervisor and log tasks in EPIC when beds are assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for thorough cleaning of assigned areas including, but not limited to, furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, showers, etc. Perform high and low dusting of TV's, lights, walls, mop floors, elevators and stairs, clean door frames, ceiling vents, and vacuum carpet, etc.Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.Observes all isolation procedures and Infect Prevention Standards. Is knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.Maintains EVS closet, EVS cart, and all equipment in a neat and orderly manner. Reports any safety hazards or equipment in need of repair to supervisor and/or Facilities. Maintain correct amount of supplies. Is knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.Replenishes paper, soap supplies, hand sanitizer.Hangs cubicles/drapes according to department policy.Special project assignments, including coordinating specifics such as; contacting affected departments to advise of upcoming project (i.e. construction projects, wall cleaning, drapes, changing cubicles, window washing, etc.), and post informational signs.Moves furniture, supplies and equipment as requested adhering to departmental safety and lifting procedures. Seeks assistance when in doubt.Responsible for properly mixing and storing chemicals to achieve correct dilution ratio. Uses proper personal protective equipment including safety goggles when needed. Reads directions carefully and asks supervisor when in doubt. Uses wet floor signs, etc. to block off work area.Makes beds in accordance with specific area needs. Is knowledgeable and can identify various bed types. Utilizes bed tracking phone/pager, places bed in EPIC and removes when bed has been completed. Responds to phone/pager call from supervisor within 5 minutes. Reports phone/pager problems to supervisor. Logs out of EPIC. Ensures dismissal rooms are ready for the next patient. Uses Xenex UV Light robot for specified rooms where available.Returns soiled and clean unused mops to department and places in proper containers/areas.Adheres to all applicable regulations and standards.Adheres to proper handling, transport and disposal of all waste types, including but not limited to: hazardous, infectious, sharps, confidential, recycling, regular trash, universal. Complete DOT Certification in order to package and transport regulated medical waste. Asks supervisor or lead when in doubt.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school graduate or equivalent preferred. Previous cleaning experience helpful.CERTIFICATION/LICENSUREN/AOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESEffectively performs scheduled floor cleaning which includes stripping, scrubbing, finishing, shampooing, and extracting in a timely manner (includes working other shifts for annual floor maintenance) following all unit specific guidelines giving attention to detailed areas such as baseboards, corners, carpet stains, etc. Clean equipment after use.Performs spot cleaning of carpets and carpet bonneting, extraction of carpet, burnishing, and wet/dry vacuum. Operates, understands, and maintains all equipment (i.e. extractors, vacuums, wet vac, burnisher, flatbed, etc.) in a safe and professional manner. Clean equipment after use and ensure batteries are charged.LEVEL OF SUPERVISIONSupervised by EVS Tech 3/Team Leads, Supervisors, Manager and/or Director.
