Job summary

Mercyhealth seeks an Environmental Services Technician to perform thorough cleaning of patient and facility areas, adhering to infection prevention standards and maintaining EVS equipment. The role involves coordination with departments for projects and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.

You will also manage bed preparation, EPIC entries, and proper waste disposal while ensuring a clean, safe environment for patients and staff across the facility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous cleaning experience helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Clean assigned areas including furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, toilets, and more.
  • Follow organizational policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Infection Prevention Standards and know chemicals used for pathogens.
  • Maintain EVS closet, cart, and equipment; report hazards to supervisor.
  • Replenish paper, soap, and hand sanitizer; adjust supplies as needed.
  • Coordinate special projects with affected departments and post informational signs.
  • Move furniture and equipment following safety and lifting procedures.
  • Mix and store chemicals correctly; use PPE as required; block off work areas with wet floor signs.
  • Prepare beds and manage EPIC bed tracking; respond to supervisor calls within 5 minutes.
  • Return soiled and clean mops; adhere to regulations and waste handling rules.

Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for thorough cleaning of assigned areas including, but not limited to, furniture, tile, fixtures, windows, sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, showers, etc. Perform high and low dusting of TV's, lights, walls, mop floors, elevators and stairs, clean door frames, ceiling vents, and vacuum carpet, etc.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Observes all isolation procedures and Infect Prevention Standards. Is knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.
  • Maintains EVS closet, EVS cart, and all equipment in a neat and orderly manner. Reports any safety hazards or equipment in need of repair to supervisor and/or Facilities. Maintain correct amount of supplies. Is knowledgeable on correct chemicals used for different pathogens.
  • Replenishes paper, soap supplies, hand sanitizer.
  • Hangs cubicles/drapes according to department policy.
  • Special project assignments, including coordinating specifics such as; contacting affected departments to advise of upcoming project (i.e. construction projects, wall cleaning, drapes, changing cubicles, window washing, etc.), and post informational signs.
  • Moves furniture, supplies and equipment as requested adhering to departmental safety and lifting procedures. Seeks assistance when in doubt.
  • Responsible for properly mixing and storing chemicals to achieve correct dilution ratio. Uses proper personal protective equipment including safety goggles when needed. Reads directions carefully and asks supervisor when in doubt. Uses wet floor signs, etc. to block off work area.
  • Makes beds in accordance with specific area needs. Is knowledgeable and can identify various bed types. Utilizes bed tracking phone/pager, places bed in EPIC and removes when bed has been completed. Responds to phone/pager call from supervisor within 5 minutes. Reports phone/pager problems to supervisor. Logs out of EPIC. Ensures dismissal rooms are ready for the next patient. Uses Xenex UV Light robot for specified rooms where available.
  • Returns soiled and clean unused mops to department and places in proper containers/areas.
  • Adheres to all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Adheres to proper handling, transport and disposal of all waste types, including but not limited to: hazardous, infectious, sharps, confidential, recycling, regular trash, universal. Complete DOT Certification in order to package and transport regulated medical waste. Asks supervisor or lead when in doubt.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Previous cleaning experience helpful.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Effectively performs scheduled floor cleaning which includes stripping, scrubbing, finishing, shampooing, and extracting in a timely manner (includes working other shifts for annual floor maintenance) following all unit specific guidelines giving attention to detailed areas such as baseboards, corners, carpet stains, etc. Clean equipment after use.
  • Performs spot cleaning of carpets and carpet bonneting, extraction of carpet, burnishing, and wet/dry vacuum. Operates, understands, and maintains all equipment (i.e. extractors, vacuums, wet vac, burnisher, flatbed, etc.) in a safe and professional manner. Clean equipment after use and ensure batteries are charged.
LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

Supervised by EVS Tech 3/Team Leads, Supervisors, Manager and/or Director. Work is performed according to standard practices and procedures with some independent judgment required.

$15.00 - $24.00
