Job summary

Crittenden Community Hospital in Marion, KY is seeking a dependable Environmental Services Associate for the Surgery Department to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.

You will select cleaning materials, perform operating room turnover, disinfect surfaces, manage waste, handle PPE, and work with nursing and surgical teams to uphold infection prevention standards and patient safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
• Previous healthcare Environmental Services, housekeeping, or hospital cleaning experience preferred.
• Must be able to learn and properly use cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, equipment, and PPE.

Responsibilities

• Select appropriate cleaning materials, disinfectants, equipment and supplies and prepare solutions.
• Perform cleaning and disinfection in operating rooms and surgical areas per protocols.
• Conduct between-case room turnover with proper cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and high-touch areas.
• Perform terminal cleaning of operating rooms and designated areas following infection prevention requirements.

Crittenden Community Hospital is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Environmental Services Associate to join our Surgery Department. This position plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for our patients, visitors, physicians, and healthcare team.

Job Summary

Environmental Services Associates assigned to the Surgery Department are responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, aseptic, and visually pleasing environment in all assigned surgical and procedural areas. They perform specialized cleaning and disinfecting procedures in accordance with established hospital policies, infection prevention standards, manufacturer instructions, and Surgery Department protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Selects appropriate cleaning materials, disinfectants, equipment, and supplies and prepares solutions according to established procedures and manufacturer instructions.
• Performs cleaning and disinfecting procedures in operating rooms and other assigned surgical areas according to Surgery Department and Environmental Services protocols.
• Performs between-case cleaning/room turnover following surgical or procedural cases, including appropriate cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces, high-touch areas, floors, and other designated areas.
• Performs terminal cleaning of operating rooms and designated procedure areas according to established hospital procedures and infection prevention requirements.
• Properly observes required disinfectant contact/dwell times and follows instructions for the safe and effective use of cleaning and disinfecting products.
• Cleans and maintains assigned areas including operating rooms, procedure rooms, pre-operative and post-operative areas, hallways, waiting areas, clean and soiled utility rooms, staff areas, and other areas designated by the Manager or Supervisor.
• Properly cleans and disinfects equipment and environmental surfaces as designated by hospital policy and Surgery Department procedures.
• Safely handles and disposes of regulated medical waste, non-regulated waste, contaminated materials, and other waste according to established policies and applicable regulations.
• Properly handles clean and soiled linen and transports linen according to established infection prevention and hospital procedures.
• Responds promptly to blood and body fluid spills, contamination events, and urgent cleaning requests in the Surgery Department.
• Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows established precautions when cleaning areas or handling potentially contaminated materials.
• Maintains Environmental Services equipment in a clean and safe condition and reports damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the Manager or Supervisor.
• Maintains adequate supplies in assigned areas and notifies the Manager or Supervisor when supplies or equipment are needed.
• Communicates effectively and professionally with Surgery Department personnel, nursing staff, physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members regarding environmental service needs.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality while working in surgical and patient-care areas.
• Follows established infection prevention and control practices, including proper cleaning sequence, disinfection procedures, hand hygiene, PPE use, and isolation precautions as applicable.
• Promotes and participates in performance improvement activities related to environmental services, infection prevention, patient safety, and quality.

Education, Training, or Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
• Previous healthcare Environmental Services, housekeeping, or hospital cleaning experience preferred.
• Previous experience cleaning operating rooms or other procedural areas is preferred but not required.
• Must demonstrate the ability to learn and perform procedures related to Environmental Services and Surgery Department cleaning and disinfection.
• Must be able to learn and appropriately use cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
• Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and established hospital policies and procedures.
