University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an Environmental Services Specialist-Campus – Night to perform cleaning duties across university spaces. You will respond to spills, maintain schedules, and interact with students, staff, and visitors in a professional manner.

The role requires independent work, adherence to safety standards, and regular training. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work a night schedule with flexibility as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and major cleaning duties in public and private spaces on campus.
  • Responds to spills or accidents and maintains cleanliness standards.
  • Completes tasks independently and participates in ongoing training.
  • Empty and replace liners in waste containers; coordinate recycling removal.
  • Inspects and refills supplies (paper, soap) during shifts.
  • Maintains carpeted and hard flooring through cleaning and mopping.
  • Inspects high-traffic areas to ensure cleanliness of restrooms, breakrooms, and lobby areas.
  • Dusts, cleans, and disinfects surfaces including furniture, walls, doors, windows, counters, and fixtures.
  • Uses and stores cleaning equipment and products safely and cost-effectively.
  • Reads and responds to service requests via communication device; interacts courteously with users.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES SPECIALIST-CAMPUS – NIGHT (2) (T239431)

Description

Performs a variety of routine and major professional cleaning duties in public and private spaces of the university. Responds to urgent cleaning needs as a result of spills or accidents. Adheres to established schedule to maintain cleanliness standards. Uses professional cleaning products, equipment, and techniques. Interact with customers, visitors, students, coworkers, and others in a friendly, helpful, and professional manner. Assists other team members with daily work and special projects. Uses assigned communication device.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE
  • Performs a variety of routine and major professional cleaning duties in public and private spaces of the university. Responds to urgent cleaning needs as a result of spills or accidents. Adheres to established schedule to maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Completes tasks independently, using professional cleaning techniques. Actively participates in ongoing training to maintain professional cleaning skills.
  • Empties, cleans, and replaces liners in waste containers daily. Coordinates removal of recycling and large waste and debris items.
  • Regularly inspects and refills supply of paper, soap, and other products throughout the shift to ensure supplies are available at all times.
  • Maintains carpeted areas through daily vacuuming and spot treatment of stains. Maintains hard flooring and stair treads through daily sweeping, wet and/or dry mopping.
  • Inspects and actively maintain cleanliness of high-traffic areas such as restrooms, breakrooms, and lobby areas throughout shift. Actively maintains cleanliness of door handles, water fountains, light switches, elevator buttons, and similar high-contact surfaces.
  • Dust cleans, and disinfects a variety of surfaces to include furniture, walls, doors, glass, windows, counters, lab, and bathroom fixtures.
  • Properly uses, stores, and maintains adequate supply of equipment and cleaning products. Uses resources in a safe, cost-effective manner.
  • Uses assigned communication device to read and respond to texts, emails, and service requests. Interact with customers, visitors, students, coworkers, and others in a friendly, helpful, and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience: Previous housekeeping experience preferred.

Starting Hourly Rate

$15.00/hour

Work Schedule

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including Sunday-Thursday, 9:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. Shifts are subject to change to meet the needs of the University.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED preferred. Previous housekeeping experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

Some positions require that driving records should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle. In performance of university business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession of a valid driver's license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving. Experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

This position will not require driving.

PERSONAL

Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:

  • Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
  • Climbing stairs
  • Performing tasks require bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
  • Working in confined spaces.
  • Working within extreme temperature ranges.
