Job Summary

The purpose of Environmental Services within Corewell Health is to provide our patients and their families with a clean and safe environment. An Environmental Attendant is a housekeeper performing basic cleaning tasks while interacting with patients, visitors, and other hospital staff. The following description of essential duties reflects the major responsibilities and tasks of the job; other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Essential Functions

1. Interact comfortably with patients, families, and visitors, presenting a warm smile and friendly demeanor to make visitors feel welcomed and cared for.
2. Clean patient rooms daily, sanitizing all surfaces, spot washing walls and windows, removing trash and linen, and thoroughly cleaning restrooms.
3. Clean ancillary areas such as nurses’ stations, med rooms, pantries, utility rooms, storage rooms, waiting areas, locker rooms, break rooms, offices, and other designated areas.
4. Clean specialty areas including OR Suites, Pre Op and Post Op areas, Emergency Department, Intensive and Critical Care Units, Labor Delivery Units, Pediatric Units, Mental Health Units, Oncology, Radiology, Labs, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Geriatrics, Kitchen areas, and more.
5. Perform basic cleaning tasks such as sanitizing surfaces, vacuuming, dust mopping, damp mopping, low and high dusting, stocking supplies, removing trash and soiled linen, and delivering clean linen as required. Complete miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
6. Use appropriate chemicals and follow safety guidelines, with proper training and provided tools to perform duties effectively.

Qualifications

• Must be able to become proficient in all aspects of the position within 30 days, with training provided by the department.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
