Job summary

AdventHealth in Zephyrhills, Florida is seeking a dedicated environmental services worker to clean and disinfect patient areas daily, stock supplies, and operate cleaning equipment in a hospital setting.

The role requires attention to infection control, good English communication, basic computer skills, and a customer-service approach. Training will cover safety, waste management, and standard operating procedures to ensure a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Infection control and safety knowledge relevant to healthcare environments.
• Good English communication and basic math comprehension.
• Ability to read and follow safety data sheets and labels.
• Experience in or willingness to learn environmental services in healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and disinfects patient and public areas daily; disposes of waste properly.
• Stocks and replenishes cleaning supplies and paper items as needed.
• Operates cleaning equipment and maintains sanitation standards.
• Follows infection control procedures and safety guidelines.
• Provides courteous customer service and supports patient interactions as needed.
• Performs other environmental duties as assigned.

Job Description:

• Cleans assigned patient and public areas daily, including collecting and removing trash and sanitizing all surfaces.
• Stocks paper items, cleaning solutions and other supplies in assigned areas as necessary or designated.
• Demonstrates complete knowledge of infection control, isolation procedures, and proper operation of cleaning equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Utilizes Bed Management system to maintain productive flow of bed through put, using hand-held technology for tracking.
• Utilizes equipment that includes cleaning/trash cart, and other janitorial supplies.
• Collects and stages soiled linen for pick up. Disposes of normal and biohazardous waste.
• Cleans and disinfects areas containing bodily fluids in accordance with facility standards. Documents all work performed.
• Accesses ancillary units, restrooms, offices in assigned areas.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field [Required]
• Ability to maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition [Required]
• Able to communicate in English [Required]
• Basic computer skills and use of mouse and keyboard [Required]
• Must be able to operate a computer using standard office software [Required]

• Must be able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets, product labels, various reports, and perform basic arithmetic [Required]

• Knowledge of additional languages [Preferred]

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Preferred]

Work Experience:

• Housekeeping or custodial experience [Preferred]
