Job Details

The Environmental Services (EVS) Associate helps maintain a high standard of cleanliness and safety. Responsibilities include performing cleaning tasks in designated areas following specific schedules and methods to ensure a sanitary, orderly, and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. EVS Associates also play a role in preventing cross-contamination, controlling bacteria and odors, and maintaining aseptic conditions. Additional duties may involve assisting with moves, recycling, supply delivery, and trash and biohazard waste removal.

Job Description

  1. Establish and maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned areas by adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
  2. Properly dispose of biohazards in accordance with EPA and OSHA regulations, including handling environmental contaminants such as batteries, thermometers (mercury), and needles. Ensure biohazardous areas are safe and free of debris.
  3. Maintain cleanliness of equipment, carts, buckets, floor machines, and supply closets to uphold a professional appearance.
  4. Comply with personal protective equipment requirements to protect against exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals, radiation, and other hazards.
  5. Follow hospital and departmental hand hygiene policies.
  6. Perform cleaning of carpets and hard surface floors following departmental procedures.
  7. Observe safety precautions when operating equipment and report any mechanical, structural, or electrical issues according to safety policies.
  8. Use wet floor signs to prevent slips and falls, ensuring safety for patients, staff, and visitors.
  9. Communicate courteously with patients and visitors, demonstrating high standards of conduct to promote a positive environment.
  10. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and setting up as requested by supervisors or staff.
  11. Respond promptly to pages or phone calls.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
