Performs cleaning duties as well as other tasks performed by the Environmental Services department. Adheres to NS-LIJHS/departmental policies and procedures and JCAHO/regulatory agency requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates good judgment and organization skills when performing cleaning duties on units.
- Responsible for maintaining equipment, carts, and closets daily.
- Cleans and services patient rooms, offices, lavatories, conference rooms, lounges, exam rooms, on-call rooms, clean and dirty utility rooms, and showers daily.
- Handles trash removal, vacuuming carpets, dry mopping, wet mopping floors, and high and low dusting of furniture, walls, ledges, and fixtures.
- Refills paper towel, toilet paper, seat cover, and soap dispensers daily.
- Knows all environmental cleaning products (chemicals) and their proper usage (dilutions) as per manufacturer's recommendations.
- Immediately notifies supervisor of any injuries, safety issues, or serious personnel situations.
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms upon discharge and cycle cleaning of isolation rooms according to department and infection control standards.
- Cleans operating rooms between cases and performs terminal cleaning of OR rooms at the end of the day.
- Collects trash from the utility room and disposes of it, including cardboard and regulated waste to designated areas.
- Removes and hangs cubicle curtains when necessary.
- Flexible in assuming required assignments and demonstrates good judgment and initiative.
- Performs related duties as required.
ADA Essential Functions
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and dump 3-5 gallon water pails (up to 25 pounds).
- Ability to move a cleaning cart on wheels (up to 100 pounds).
- Ability to step up on a safety stool (2-4 steps).
- Ability to hang and take down cubicle curtains (up to 20 pounds), and wash ceilings, walls, and high windows.
- Ability to move patient furniture.
- Requires continuous movement, lifting, and bending during 7.5-hour shifts.
- Must communicate effectively face-to-face and via telephone.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Environmental Services experience in a hospital preferred.
- Effective communication skills required.
