Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an Environmental Service Lead to join our Environmental Services team at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, NJ. The role focuses on leading a hands-on team to maintain cleanliness, infection prevention, and exceptional service across patient care areas.

You’ll coordinate daily operations with supervisors, mentor staff, and ensure hospital standards are met. The position requires about one year of hospital EVS experience, leadership ability, and strong

Qualifications

  • Approximately one year's experience in hospital environmental services.
  • Leadership skills to motivate staff in the absence of the manager and/or supervisor.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Technical knowledge of environmental services.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily work assignments and establish staff schedules with the Environmental Services Supervisor and Manager.
  • Assign duties, distribute supplies and equipment, inspect completed work, and work alongside team members to maintain high cleaning standards.
  • Train Environmental Services staff on proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and the efficient use of materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout patient care areas and other hospital departments while ensuring compliance with infection prevention and isolation procedures.
  • Monitor sanitation and safety practices and follow up to ensure standards are consistently achieved.
  • Coordinate trash removal from hospital grounds and entrances and inspect exterior areas daily.
  • Report maintenance and repair needs and follow through to ensure completion.
  • Support employee performance evaluations and assist with personnel-related processes, including schedule changes and other staffing actions.
  • Coordinate special event setups and other departmental activities as assigned.
  • Follow organizational policies regarding the proper use of Dash Cams to support safety, security, and driver training initiatives.

As an Environmental Service Lead, a typical day might include the following:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have technical knowledge of environmental services. The ability to read, write and speak English, and flexibility to accept change is also required. Approximately one year's experience as an environmental services aide in a hospital setting is preferred, as well as Leadership skills to motivate staff in the absence of the manager and/or supervisor.
