Job summary

A well respected national law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Sr Attorney or Partner to join its Environmental Law group. The role focuses on advising clients on environmental laws, managing inspections, and addressing enforcement actions, while leveraging connections to generate new work.

Candidates should have eight+ years of experience in environmental or water law for public or private clients, and be capable of handling litigation and complex regulatory matters with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• 8+ years environmental/water law experience for public/private clients
• Public sector experience with Brown Act knowledge preferred
• Experience assisting in discovery and pleadings for litigation at state agencies
• Excellent legal research and writing skills
• Ability to interface with clients and develop strategy with minimal supervision

Job description

Im working with a great client of mine - a well respected national law firm - and helping them find a Sr Attorney or Partner for their Environmental Law group

Theyre mainly looking for someone who can help handle a broad range of environmental work from our OSHA clients but also has interest in helping generate work through cross selling and with their own connections

An ability to litigate is always great but the main purpose would be to advise and counsel clients about various environmental laws and regulations, manage inspections, deal with enforcement actions, permits, fines, etc

Specific skills sought are:

• At least eight years of experience with environmental and/or water law matters for public and/or private clients;
• Experience with public sector clients such as cities, counties, and special districts is preferred with demonstrable knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interests;
• Experience with assisting in preparation of discovery and pleadings for litigation or adversarial proceedings at state administrative agencies such as the State Water Resources Control Board;
• Excellent legal research and analysis skills and demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive research on specific timelines;
• Excellent writing skills ranging from client memorandums to law and motion work in adversarial proceedings;
• Ability to handle and manage, with limited supervision and oversight, preparing and responding to written discovery;
• Ability to interface with clients and convey a level of professionalism and competence in terms of both the legal and strategic issues in environmental and/or labor matters;
• Willingness to take ownership of a matter and ability to develop a plan and/or course of action;
• Personal attributes strongly preferred are a self-starter with excellent follow-through and communication skills; hard worker; impeccable judgment; and an entrepreneurial spirit.
