Job summary

Law firm in Chicago seeks a senior attorney or partner to lead our Environmental Law group. The role focuses on advising clients on environmental regulations, managing inspections, and handling enforcement actions while cross-selling services to generate new work through your connections.

Ideal candidates bring eight+ years of experience in environmental and/or water law for public or private clients, plus strong research and writing skills and the ability to work with public sector entities

Qualifications

• At least eight years of experience with environmental and/or water law matters for public and/or private clients.
• Experience with public sector clients such as cities, counties, and special districts is preferred with knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interests.
• Experience with assisting in discovery and pleadings for litigation or administrative agency proceedings such as the State Water Resources Control Board.
• Excellent legal research and analysis skills with ability to research on specific timelines.
• Excellent writing skills from memoranda to motions.
• Ability to handle written discovery with limited supervision.
• Ability to interface with clients professionally on legal and strategic issues.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and strong follow-through.

Im working with a great client of mine - a well respected national law firm - and helping them find a Sr Attorney or Partner for their Environmental Law group

Theyre mainly looking for someone who can help handle a broad range of environmental work from our OSHA clients but also has interest in helping generate work through cross selling and with their own connections

An ability to litigate is always great but the main purpose would be to advise and counsel clients about various environmental laws and regulations, manage inspections, deal with enforcement actions, permits, fines, etc

Specific skills sought are:

• At least eight years of experience with environmental and/or water law matters for public and/or private clients;
• Experience with public sector clients such as cities, counties, and special districts is preferred with demonstrable knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interests;
• Experience with assisting in preparation of discovery and pleadings for litigation or adversarial proceedings at state administrative agencies such as the State Water Resources Control Board;
• Excellent legal research and analysis skills and demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive research on specific timelines;
• Excellent writing skills ranging from client memorandums to law and motion work in adversarial proceedings;
• Ability to handle and manage, with limited supervision and oversight, preparing and responding to written discovery;
• Ability to interface with clients and convey a level of professionalism and competence in terms of both the legal and strategic issues in environmental and/or labor matters;
• Willingness to take ownership of a matter and ability to develop a plan and/or course of action;
• Personal attributes strongly preferred are a self-starter with excellent follow-through and communication skills; hard worker; impeccable judgment; and an entrepreneurial spirit.
