Job summary

Leidos Inc. seeks an Environmental Scientist to support the NASA Environmental and Medical Contract at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

You will assist in waste operations, waste shipments, and post-emergency spill cleanup while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibilities include interpreting environmental regulations, coordinating waste transport, and serving as Site Supervisor for spill responses under HAZWOPER requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or related discipline with eight years of directly related work experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations and rules regarding waste management (hazardous waste, universal wastes, PCBs, asbestos, DEA controlled substances, etc.), transportation (DOT), and emergency response/HAZWOPER.
  • Obtain DOT HAZMAT employee certification within 90 days of employment and biennially thereafter.
  • Obtain RCRA Hazardous Waste/TSDF certification within six months of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Obtain OSHA HAZWOPER within one month of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Mathematical skills and ability to read, analyze and communicate precise data and terminology.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Possess valid driver's license and be eligible for clearance at a federal facility.
  • Pass an occupational health physical to obtain/maintain required qualifications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing and evaluating environmental problems using scientific methods to prevent pollution and predict future issues.
  • Review, evaluate, and interpret environmental regulations and identify compliance requirements for facility programs.
  • Evaluate wastes to classify regulatory requirements for transport, recycling, treatment, or disposal.
  • Assist in development of contract requirements for environmental studies and waste technologies.
  • Coordinate shipments of waste materials for disposal or recycling per regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as Site Supervisor for post-emergency spill cleanup and first responder duties per OSHA HAZWOPER.
