Job summary

Leidos is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join NASA's NEMCON team at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. You will support waste operations, oversee disposal shipments, and supervise post-emergency spill cleanup to keep KSC and USSF in regulatory compliance.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry or related field with eight years of related experience, plus DOT HAZMAT, HAZWOPER certifications, and strong communication and Microsoft Office

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with eight years of related work experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of environmental regulations (RCRA, DOT, TSCA, OSHA HAZWOPER).
• DOT HAZMAT within 90 days of employment; TSDF/TSDF-related credentials within six months.
• OSHA HAZWOPER within one month and annually thereafter.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient in MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Analyze environmental problems and develop solutions to prevent pollution.
• Review and interpret federal, state and local environmental regulations and ensure compliance.
• Evaluate waste streams from KSC/USSF to classify and transport/recycle/dispose properly.
• Coordinate shipments of waste materials for disposal and recycling under regulatory rules (DOT, RCRA, TSCA).
• Serve as Site Supervisor for post-emergency spill cleanup and first responder operations per OSHA HAZWOPER.
• Prepare environmental reports and establish guidelines for compliance objectives.
• Ensure safe handling of by-products and proper waste segregation and containerization.
