Job Description
The Senior Environmental Scientist will work on projects involving low to high complexity, multi-media, multi-contaminant remediation. Responsibilities include planning and implementing field activities, evaluating laboratory data, and preparing technical documents under the supervision of a Project Manager/LSRP. The role involves working independently or leading a team, establishing project goals, timelines, and budgets, and training junior staff. Communication with clients and support in technical meetings with NJDEP are also required.

This role may involve exposure to wet or humid conditions, working at heights with fall protection, noisy environments requiring hearing protection, and the use of personal protective equipment. A physical exam will be conducted to ensure capability to wear respirators and protective suits.

Job Responsibilities

• Apply environmental science expertise in chemistry, industrial hygiene, and biology to resolve client EH&S concerns and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Travel as needed by air, sea, and land.
• Obtain and maintain licenses for mold, lead, and asbestos assessments in multiple states.
• Work as part of a team under a Project Manager's guidance.
• Manage multiple projects at different stages.
• Prepare studies and reports following standard procedures.
• Investigate and evaluate environmental, health, and safety conditions at client sites, conducting research and planning to complete comprehensive reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geology, biology, environmental science, or related field, with 6+ years of experience in investigation and remediation; a master’s degree is a plus.
• Knowledge of NJDEP’s Technical Guidance and Site Remediation requirements.
• Experience with due diligence and property transactional requirements.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication skills.
• Experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Flexibility to work outside normal hours.
• 40-hour OSHA training.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional licenses such as NJ Subsurface Evaluator, UST Closure License, or LSRP are desirable.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Most duties are performed standing.
• Ability to carry up to 30 lbs unassisted.
• Ability to reach, bend, climb ladders, wear respirators, and work in confined spaces.
• Correctable vision to at least 20/40, with good color and depth perception.

The salary range is approximately $80,000 - $100,000, based on experience and other factors.
