Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Denver, CO invites Engineering Interns to contribute to environmental services projects, applying standard engineering techniques, assisting lead engineers, and supporting site teams on multiple market segments.

You will gain hands-on experience with permitting, design updates, data analysis, and presentations while developing problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills in a real-world consulting environment.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field from an accredited program.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active involvement in campus, community or volunteer activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn with the ability to grow in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with standard engineering tasks under supervision.
  • Support environmental services projects from permitting to remediation.
  • Assist with data entry, documentation, and presentations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

A Brief Overview

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Environmental Services

The Environmental Services group is responsible for the full life cycle of infrastructure development, from permitting new projects to the remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater and emerging contaminants. This includes support for municipal, state and federal government clients, along with clients in the transportation, manufacturing, industrial, oil and gas, chemical and utility sectors.

  • Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation and Power Point presentation.
  • Assist with responses to general questions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
  • Present solutions to concerns.
  • Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications

Compensation

$19.00-30.00 Hourly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
