Job summary

Apex Companies is hiring an Environmental Scientist 1 in Urbandale, IA. You will conduct fieldwork on a dynamic portfolio across the Midwest, support environmental due diligence, site delineation, remediation, and stormwater compliance, and perform emergency response duties for pipeline and C Store clients.

Requirements include a BS in Geology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Science and 1–3+ years of field sampling experience.

Qualifications

• 1–3+ years of environmental field sampling and data collection.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
• Strong technical writing, safety awareness, and data handling.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Perform field work on environmental projects across Iowa and the Midwest, including due diligence, site investigations, remediation, and stormwater compliance.
• Perform emergency response activities for pipeline and C Store clients.
• Collect soil, water, air, and building material samples.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret data.

Apex Companies is hiring an Environmental Scientist 1 based out of our Urbandale, IA location.

Your Responsibilities as an Environmental Scientist 1:

• Perform field work on a dynamic portfolio of environmental projects across Iowa and the Midwest, including environmental due diligence, site investigations/delineation, remediation, and stormwater compliance.
• Perform emergency response activities for pipeline and C Store clients throughout the Midwest.
• Collect soil, water, air, and/or building material samples.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret data.
• Input data into template reports.
• Observe safe work practices.

What we're looking for:

• BS in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or other related field.
• 1-3+ years of experience with environmental field sampling and data collection.
• Strong technical writing skills, the ability to successfully multi-task, safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
• Light construction experience/hands-on skills a plus.
• Experience with data management and report preparation.
• Valid driver's license, good driving history and reliable transportation are required.
• Strong communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
