Job summary

Hudbay Minerals U.S. Business Unit in Arizona seeks an Environmental Scientist to support construction and operations with compliance reporting and Environmental Management System protocols.

The role ensures regulatory and permit compliance through data collection, review, and coordinating with site personnel. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Scientist, the position involves field inspections, data analyses, and collaboration with the project team and site personnel to ensure environmental

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, chemistry, geology, natural resources, or other science degree.
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
  • ArcGIS Pro experience is a plus.
  • 2–3 years of environmental-related experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and with a diverse team.
  • Ability to communicate to all levels confidently.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in development of field procedures and site plans for chemical and waste management.
  • Review contractor proposals for alignment with SOPs.
  • Reviews new chemical products prior to site approval.
  • Work with the Project team to ensure environmental plans, permits and policies are followed.
  • Coordinates planning, project execution and data analyses for environmental studies with senior staff.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports and correspondence to meet compliance requirements.
  • Conducts field inspections and coordinates with employees, contractors and other teams.
  • Leads installation, operation and maintenance of scientific equipment.

Purpose Of Role

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Scientist, the Environmental Scientist will provide technical support and guidance to the construction and operating teams through preparation of compliance reports and Environmental Management System protocols. This position ensures compliance with regulatory and permit requirements through data collection, review and tracking, conducting field inspections and coordinating with site personnel.


Role Accountabilities


  • Assists in the development of field procedures and site plans for chemical and waste management.

  • Review of contractor proposals to ensure alignment with standard operating procedures.

  • Reviews new chemical products prior to site approval.

  • Works with the Project team to ensure construction activities comply with environmental plans, policies, permits, etc.

  • Coordinates planning, project execution and data analyses for environmental scientific studies in collaboration with senior staff.

  • Maintains records, prepares reports, composes correspondence and performs other administrative activities as necessary to meet compliance requirements.

  • Conducts field inspections related to construction or other engineering activities and coordinates with employees, contractors, consultants, and other teams.

  • Leads the installation, operation and maintenance activities associated with scientific equipment.


Minimum Qualifications And Education


  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, chemistry, geology, natural resources, or other science degree.

  • Advance level of Microsoft Excel and MS Office.

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in environmental-related field preferred.

  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro software a plus.

  • Ability to work in an effective manner, with limited supervision, with a diverse group of professionals in a collaborative work environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate to all levels confidently and effectively within the company.
