CalRecycle in Sacramento is seeking Environmental Scientists for the Waste Tire Enforcement Section to perform field inspections, identify violations, and pursue enforcement actions.
The incumbents will conduct professional scientific work across California, travel up to 50% of the time, and may participate in hybrid telework. A valid California Driver's License is required.

Are you looking to make a difference and join a highly motivated team working on issues critical to ensuring public health and sustainability of California? CalRecycle’s Waste Tire Enforcement Section is seeking multiple Environmental Scientists to perform field inspections at waste tire facilities, determine violations, and take appropriate enforcement actions against non-compliant sites.
Under direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Environmental Scientist (incumbent) will perform a variety of responsible professional scientific office and field work. Incumbents independently perform?assigned public health, environmental and natural resource management?analysis, research, surveys, investigations, and studies; write final reports; prepare regulatory and compliance documents; enforce environmental law and regulations; prepare non-routine correspondence and answer?non-routine questions from the public; and do other related duties to implement CalRecycle’s statewide Waste Tire Enforcement Program.
This position conducts field inspections throughout California and requires regular travel up to 50% of the time, by car and plane, including single or multi-night trips.

Beginning July 1, 2026, CalRecycle staff will be office-centered, requiring employees to report to the office at least four days per week. This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program needs. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the positions designated headquarter location, as reflected on the duty statement and at their own expense.
