Job summary

Nebraska Indian Community College is seeking a full-time Environmental Science Faculty to teach across our environmental health courses at Macy, Santee, or South Sioux City campuses. The role combines teaching, research, and service with a 12-month contract and a starting salary range of $55,000–$78,000.

Qualified candidates will hold a Master’s in Environmental Science (Doctorate preferred) and demonstrate strong communication, leadership, and experience with online learning tools.

POSITION TITLE: Environmental Science Faculty (full-time, salaried, exempt)

PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: Macy Campus, Santee Campus, or South Sioux City Campus

STARTING SALARY: $55,000-78,000

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Environmental Science or related field. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Excellent oral and written communication skills. College teaching experience is preferred as well as a familiarity with the use of technology (online learning management systems, video conferencing, etc.). The candidate must be able to show evidence of effective leadership and a background of proven success in working with students, administrators, faculty, and communities. Qualified applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, and ABILITIES:

Preferred candidates will have proven success in the following:

• Doctorate degree in Environmental Science or related field
• Minimum of two (2) years instructional experience, preferably in a tribal or community college setting
• Experience instructing students from minoritized backgrounds, using technology in the classroom and/or for distance learning, and traditional/nontraditional methods of instruction.
• Candidate should have a high degree of self-direction and motivation, strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-time faculty have a 12-month contract with a minimum of forty hours per week. This includes activities in three general areas: teaching (50%), research (30%), and service (20%). Courses may include: Introduction to Environmental Health, Technical Writing, Intro to GIS, Environmental Resource Management, Advanced Environmental Health, All-Hazard Emergency Preparedness, Ethnobotany, Water is Life and Aquatic Ecosystems, Environmental Health Management & Planning, Recreational Environmental Health, Solid & Hazardous Material and Waste Management, Senior Capstone, and/or Senior Research Project. Teaching schedule may include assignments online, on other campuses (see below for locations), day, and evening classes. This position will augment our capacity for the B.S. degree in Indigenous Environmental Health that just launched in Fall 2025!
