Job summary

Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Environmental Health / Safety Management Specialist ensures all required quality and safety training, and reporting are performed according to company, federal, state, and local statutory requirements. This position will develop, manage, and report on both the quality and safety. The Environmental / Safety Management Specialist will host quality and safety education events for employees and creates and facilitates Safety Committee meetings.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Manage and develop workload schedules
• Develop training and awareness programs on ground maintenance and best practices
• Ensure all federal, state, and local statuary requirements are followed
• Ensuring that business goals, deadlines, and performance standards are met in accordance with the job site requirements
• Assisting with the hiring, interviewing, and training processes
• Writing forecasts or predictions for a team productivity

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating the safety training programs. This may include employee orientations, specific program training, monitoring and assisting in weekly safety meetings, supervisor training, and accident awareness training
• Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
• Performs environmental surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
• Conducts post-accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management
• Assist managers and supervisors in investigating and documenting all property damage, personal injuries, safety violations, and unsafe conditions and activities
• Work with managers and supervisors in managing hazardous working conditions and eliminating unsafe employee activities.
• Investigate and recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operations to minimize potential hazards
• Oversee workplace repair, installations, and any other work that could harm employees' safety
• Develop, manage and report on quality and safety programs and plans
• Assists in the development and implementation of quality and safety policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local statutory requirements as directed
• Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes
• Collect, manage, and report on safety procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local statutory requirements
• Advises HQ quality and safety director on any quality or safety compliance concerns and preventative actions
• Ensure employee understanding of and compliance with all quality and safety company policies and procedures
• Ensure that all sub-contractors employees comply with job site quality and safety rules and regulations

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Proficient in written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
• Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times a, stressful environment
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
• Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
• Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Bachelor's degree
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred or have more than one certification in the following: Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC), Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or similar accredited certifications
• At least 5 years of related experience required
• Certified in risk management and health/safety management
• Working knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines

Physical Requirements:

• Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
• Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary
• Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
• Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Special Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must be able to successfully pass, as required, a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
• Valid state driver's license
• First Aid and CPR Certified
• OSHA 500 Certified
• Completed 40 Hour EM 385-1-1 Course
• Completed 30-Hour OSHA Construction Course
